The art of naming threads...

its funny, i figured out theres a certain art in titling threads that will get u more views/responses. its funny to see all the creative titles & such, also some of the titles that are boring and repeated “will i get in” etc… List ur favorite titles if u have ne, thanks.

The art of naming threads…

Thread titles should be descriptive & accurate. Mods will edit bad titles on sight. “Help Me!” is largely useless when a member is scanning the New Post list, while “Stanford Interview Help Needed” may draw others with similar interests and maybe even someone who can help.

i think i’m drawn subconciously to more interesting titles that leave a bit of mystery, such as Is it worth it? I want to know what they’re talking about! Or I like reading personalbe titles, like what’s your major, dream school, grade, classes, things like that.

Yea, there is always the curiosity of a thread like- what should i do?.

As a counterpoint, if I see a thread like “What Should I Do?”, I just skip it. My [snotty] attitude is that if a poster can’t make himself clear with the thread, why should I bother to take a look? I spend too much time on CC as it is so it saves me time.

Example: If this thread had been titled “What do you think?”, I wouldn’t be posting here.

Having a good title helps the internal search engine, too. “Career in Law?” is more likely to show up in search results for law-related searches (and get clicked on) than “Really Undecided!”

I don’t know… I get paranoid I might miss something important/interesting in a vague-titled thread. i’m probably increasing the views for those threads. But I agree, a good title definitely helps everyone better.

yeah, I post relatively frequently, but I probably only post on 1/8-1/4 of the threads I read

Teal, if you have not only done so, you will reach a point in life where you have more interesting stuff to read/do than you have time for. Ill-named threads just make for a more efficient process on what to read.

Well, there’s going to be 2 or so more rainstorms coming, pouring hard from today till Monday, so I can spare some time with some plans postponed. It doesn’t take that long to select and look at new posts; I check 1-2 times a day usually daily/every other day.
Whenever I have more interesting stuff to do, i’ll do just that. Though sometimes CC is just more interesting than some of the stuff on my schedule :stuck_out_tongue:

Favorite titles: basically, i enjoy titles that are clever/creative and prefer those that are specific. I don’t like titles that lie or are vague like, for instance, the title on this post which is deceptive and vague lol

I was off-line for most of today for a peculiar reason: I was running a Dungeons & Dragons expedition for my D and two of her friends, TheMom, and four of my friends back from my college days when we played it regularly for at least 10 years before some of us got married, had kids, got diverted with Real Life, etc.

The rain was no problem.
