the asian situation

The worst part is when a white person claims something like “well, asians get some help with AA, it’s just whites who suffer…” or otherwise claiming that AA helps asians, when it clearly doesn’t [at the top ivies, which are the colleges that most cannot get into, before someone points out some random colleges where Asians benefit]

This was surprising to me too. I can’t really figure out how much 0.5 percentage points is. For a class of 1200 admitted students it would mean about 6 more spots going to white applicants if there was not affirmative action. Maybe that’s correct, it’s interesting anyway. I think it points to the fact that the Asians have it harder than the whites so without affirmative action Asians would be more likely than whites to occupy the spots vacated by the under represented minorities.

They just need to be educated. I didn’t find out until this year when my daughter was applying to colleges that the asian kids were getting slammed due to affirmative action. One of her friends is asian and had the worst results from the admissions process of anyone. It was hard for me to hear, but our state school is good and he’s looking forward to going there.
