My dad’s always forcing [whole] milk down my throat because he says his short friend’s kids drank it when they were younger and now they’re like 5’10".

@Swinter: no aversion to the sun–it’d be impossible here in sunny California, where I play tennis in the burning, burning summer heat. And so my tan appears.

Heh–I’m 5"3, and my mom is waiting for me to grow three more inches and hit the “perfect” height. I too am force-fed milk. Of the organic variety.

You think you’ve got it bad? I live in sunny Arizona. Lol. My mom and dad are hoping for a miracle and expect me to be 5’4". Even though both of them are like 5’1".

My mom’s 5’3" but my father was like 6’2", so she’s expecting me to be really tall. I’m not really force-fed milk, but I do eat a lot of cereal…not getting any taller, though. I’ve grown 1/4" in the past year, according to the height measuring thing (can’t think of what it’s called right now) at the doctor’s office :(

Do you guys ever have a hard time speaking English. Idk I’m fluent in Korean, and it sometimes I just cant properly say words like: tragedy, and specially. haha I’m 5’7 (every single family is remotely tall). omg the weight thing. Do any of you ever try to get whiter? I’m not a white wannabe, but I just want fairer skin.

I’m only 5’1’’ but my dad expects me to grow to 5’5". My mom is only 5’ so it’ll be hard. I try to alternate between milk, water, juice and rice milk because for some mysterious reason, if I eat too much at the dinner table and I drink milk, I have a nasty stomachache afterwards. My mom really wants me to have whiter skin so she used to make me wear long sleeved shirts in the summer. I used to live in New Mexico so I probably looked like a burnt cookie even though I would wear a thick layer of sunscreen to go to soccer practice. Now I’ve moved to the midwest so my skin has gotten a lot paler.

I’m 5"6’ and 130 pounds (ughhh my parents want me to lose it all because my mom is as tall as me and was less than 100 pounds in college) -_____-

How I lost 5 pounds (before gaining it all back thanks to my parents) was I didn’t starve myself, but I only ate 1500 calories a day and I ate small meals and snacks so that I wouldn’t get hungry. And I’d sleep early so I’d avoid my parents’ “snacks” (aka thousands of calories of junk food) that they bring home at night. :x I also jumproped lol.

I DUN WANNA DO IT AGAIN. ;___; But I’ll have to meh.
And I never have juice or anything because they’re loaded with sugar and calories (I used to drink like 5 cups of juice daily lol). I just substituted juice and sodas for semi-iced water.

^ OMG YES. I /ALWAYS/ pronounce things incorrectly. When I talk for more than a minute, my words get all jumbled and I can’t even say words like reminiscence correctly. My friends always make fun of me for that. xD

And yes. It doesn’t work though. I live where EveningSwan used to live, and it’s SO sunny over here. I get tanned by staying out in the sun for 5 minutes. -____- I can’t wait until winter.

@Penguinone: It’s mainly a difference in culture I guess.
I don’t know about other places, but in Korea there are very strict standards that often dictate the perceptions of people around you.

I care about my weight, but I have several cousins who have begged their parents for plastic surgery as early as 13. Whereas in the US (thankgoodnessilivehereatm) I’m probably considered normal, in Korea, most people my age are expected to be less than 110 pounds, and ideally, less than 100 pounds. Same goes with skin color.

In my cousins’ facebook pictures, they often photoshop their faces heavily and do a peace sign with their hand… not to be cute, but to cover the shape of their face. On pictures that don’t have photoshop/etc, I can sometimes see comments about how ugly their face is and how unnatural they look.

My parents told me that I have to be smart and pretty so that I can visit my relatives LOL. My mom doesn’t even like uploading pictures of me on her facebook anymore and only uploads pictures of my skinny sister because she doesn’t want to hear comments about how I’m so fat haha.

It’s kinda sad though, how much of so-called “personality” is molded by appearance.

I had a really tough year two years ago where I gained like twenty pounds and I haven’t lost the weight. When I was in elementary school, I only gained a pound every few months or so. It’s really weird because I thought I was fat and now I’m a lot fatter. xD Now, I don’t really know how to lose weight, but last year, on accident, I lost a couple pounds. I think it’s because I ate a smaller dinner… I’m still under 100 pounds, though.

@gomdorri We can be NM buddies! ;)

Yay! Buddies! x3
In a way, I’m glad I live here because I don’t have to take 22 AP exams to get the state AP scholar award LOL. I might even try to go for it since it might be easy… o____o

Haha yay for having a leg up because of my location. XD /shot’d

omg same. I think I was like, 100 pounds until the end of 8th grade… e____e I don’t exercise either, which doesn’t help at all. Under 100 pounds is not fat. Even if you’re short, under 100 pounds is not fat lol. Trust me. xD

Eveningswan:
if you want to lose weight, use a calorie calculator and basic science and biology will do the job. 100 pounds is definitely not fat unless you’re 3 feet tall LOL.

anybody here ready to see the olympics! once badminton events begin ill be glued to the computer…

@OTLcat: rubbing lemons on your skin and taking milk baths are rumoured to lighten skin color. It seems like one of those long term investments though.

I think it’s my parents’ dream to have me go to Harvard as a skinny, beautiful 100 pound Korean girl with a perfect personality… and then send me to Korea to visit all of my relatives and talk to them about my success ROFL.

That’s not going to happen. xDDD

@123Testing I’m not trying to lose weight, and I don’t think I’m fat, just larger than what I was in elementary school (obviously).

Anyways, i’m really excited for the Olympics, especially the gymnastic competitions.

bump

this thread is cool

Yes, we should keep this thread alive.

So… Asian predicaments. I had a school assembly today and I saw the color guard perform for the first time. They’re looking for members and I’m kinda interested but if it involves being in the sun a lot then I’m out. Lol.

THE SUN !!!
jkjk

How do you have school already?

I would assume that the color guard performs at night (football games and such). I don’t really know though. All-guys schools don’t have colorguards…

I’m on a year-round schedule. My district’s fall, winter, and spring break are two weeks each (more like 17-18 days due to teacher inservice day) and summer break is seven weeks long.

I assume color guard performs at night, but I think there’s a lot of morning and afternoon practice.
