I'm currently in mock trial and we are having elections in a few days.
It is actually pretty clear who the president will be at this point, but the vice presidency
is open.
I want to run for the position of vice president for junior year, but there are several upperclassmen in the club, one in particular who I can see as a potential running mate.
This was my first year in the club and I had the honor being an attorney. Most of the upperclassmen except one individual have never been attorneys before. All the attorneys this year are graduating except for me and my potential running mate, who is a grade higher than me but was not a first-year attorney.
The only awkward thing is that there is a clear hierarchy in the club and most of the upperclassmen dominate many of the positions. If I run, I'm afraid that things will get awkward given that I'm just a sophomore trying to topple this hierarchy that's been established.
I am more qualified in terms of ability and prior leadership experience, but I definitely don't want this to be an awkward situation.
I don't know if I'm overthinking it, but at this point I'm not really sure whether I want to run.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Go ahead and run. Chances are, based solely on your post, is that there are so few underclassmen in an officer position because they worry about the same thing you are worrying about and don’t go for it. Also, you do have the upper hand with already being an attorney, and high qualifications.
