Cleaned out my sock drawer and got rid of all of the “singles” as well as any socks that were worn. Also went through my underwear drawer and discovered that I own 3 pair of long johns. No idea why. I got rid of two pair, kept one as well, you never know…

^^Unfortunately I have worn long johns 24 hrs/day since January 1st, so I need a couple pairs so I don’t get frostbite while the others are in the laundry. Sigh. : ) Now back to the bagging topic

dropped three bags today. One a humidifier not used in a decade or more. I did replace it this winter but the new one is nicer. ALSO! went through the pantry and have one grocery bag of way past “best by” food. Nothing that says “use by”. Is there anywhere to drop this bag? I did need the sweet chili sauce tonight for a new recipe and after a google search decided to use it as the packaging was like new. It was 13 months past “best”.
Have not yet gone through the dry stuff like beans that I bought 5 years ago–that is next.
Did the pasta shelf last summer and it was sad. Did the frig. condiments last week and that was sadder. Frig. is lonely now.

Everytime I open a jar for the fridge, I use a sharpie (black or silver) and write my open date on the cover. This makes it easy to recognize items that should be tossed.

walked through adult S’s closet and just bundled up any clothes there. Next to the games in his closet.

H just ordered new pants which he needed. Told him four pair need to hit the bag. A huge pile was awaiting me this morning. Now if I can get him motivated to do the rest of his clothes our room will be done. Got small bath samples together for church. Need to work on cabinets. Worse part was having to go buy a letterman jacket at Goodwill for D to wear at school auction. Now she wants to keep. It will disappear in a week :)

Another bag gone from the bedroom and one more from the kitchen. H vacuumed and mopped the floors - wow, the house is really getting in order.

A new pile of S’s things ready to bag. We are all really doing so great! I think I will hunker down this week and go to some of the little places in the house such as the drawer in the laundry room.

oregon, you inspired me to ask dh about the two humidifers downstairs. He had completely forgotten them. And yes, they’re on their way out! So why, I must ask, did they go downstairs in the first place?

Oregon, take the outdated food to the landfill, please!

Read this article. It helps us understand why getting rid of stuff is so difficult.

Good article!
So I am the 3 things a day person. Sometimes I slip and other days (as in tonight) I have 30 plus.
I am wondering what my fairly large house will look like when I stop. I can be a bit sterile by nature and am preparing for a future move in a few years…
I built excessive storage when we built 11 years ago. D and S’s closets are large enough to put a single bed in with room to spare. All rooms have built in drawers. I did this for myself and for resale as just do not think there is anything better, after a great kitchen, than storage!

Two more big bags of stuff out.

And, at the urging of a girlfriend who had a good experience, went through the old jewelry box of stuff I never will wear/land of tarnished single earrings and took the gold and (mostly) silver to a very nice/clean “buy gold” places and made a couple hundred bucks without touching any of the good stuff, anything my D might want from her dad, anything my mom gave me or anything anyone in their right mind would want. The stuff they didn’t take went RIGHT into the goodwill bag without me even shufffling through it again. It actually feels very freeing. More stuff I don’t want and won’t ever use but haul from place to place feeling like I “should” keep it.

Cleaned out under one bathroom sink, two more kitchen cabinets and a paperwork pile. Giant bag for the garbage. I can’t wait till it warms up - the garage is looking like a prime spot to fill several bags.

went a little crazy and had to go back through a garbage bag. It was late and I was on a roll. Retrieved a few small things but yet another bag!

Two big ones left today. Only pulled one item out.

Five boxes of toys to Goodwill!

Bag of towels to the animal shelter.

^^^genius

21 bags out yesterday (2 weeks accumulation), but I have to admit that part of it was just weekly garbage, and not the result of clearing things out.

One loss of nerve: I had a crate that I had carted out to be picked up by the trash collector, and as I looked at it there by the street, I thought that it was really a very nice crate. And custom-built to ship a small table with a shadow-box top that QMP had purchased for me from an artisan on Etsy. So the crate came back into the garage for future decision-making. I will probably wind up keeping it and tossing other things.

Next, I need to organize the things I am taking to Goodwill. Wish me luck! (and energy!)
