the basics.

Ok, so these questions have probably been answered a million times, but I just have some basic questions and inquiries.

I am going to be a freshman this upcoming fall. I am not attending my first choice school; nor my second, third or fourth, etc. It was my last resort safety school. I'm excited to attend college, but I wish it was at a different school. I'm thinking about transferring for my sophomore year.

I hear that you're better off waiting to transfer your junior year so schools daont look at your high school grades, but I don't want to wait that long. Is it ok to transfer before or what can I do so they don't pit as much emphasis on high school?

What part of freshman year do I have to apply as a transfer for the upcoming year?

I also hear transfers get no financial aid- how do people then afford to transfer and is it with it?

ok awesome- thanks for the link! It really helped. Just one more question…

Which one of these schools is the best for a transfer student:

UMichigan
Syracuse U
UWisconsin-Madison
The Ohio State U

Not sure what you mean by ‘best’: highest transfer rate, most accepting of transfers…??

What state are you a resident in?

google the Transfer Book.

Most likely to accept a lot of transfers I guess. And decent financial aid for transfers. I live in NY

[Transfer Acceptance Rates at US News Top 50 2009 & 2008 – The Transfer Book](Transfer Acceptance Rates at US News Top 50 - Transferweb)

Acceptance rates

If you have a college board account (if you don’t, you should make one), just look up the school and look under “admissions.” Transfer acceptance rates, yield, etc is at the bottom of the page.

Transfer rates from the CB or US News will be for all applicants. The OP is OOS for the three publics listed, so rates will actually be lower for them than shown on these sources because transfer rates are higher for IS applicants.

None of the 3 publics listed will give you need based FA. UVA and UNC-CH are the only publics that treat OOS students like IS for need based FA.
