The beginning of the end...

Of community college! First day is here and we got about 16 weeks until we complete our goals. For some of us, accumulating as much credits as we can to boost our GPAs and for others, finishing up our pre-reqs. One more CC semester and I can finally apply to my dream school that is UIUC. So here is to the beginning of the end of the semester. Can't wait until its over!

Let’s keep each other motivated.

Hey, illinois is where I would like to transfer as well.
Hopefully, we can both get in next year.
But, can i ask for some of your stats from highschool?
Also, can i ask you what clases you are taking at the CC with how many credits?
Thanks bud

My high school stats are beyond attrocious because I was an unmotivated student.

However, thankfully since I am applying for junior standing, they won’t put much weight on my high school transcript. In that case, my college GPA is currently at a 3.25 with 28 graded credits. Once this fall semester is over [16 credits], I will apply directly after. If I do maintain a 4.0 for the fall, my cumalitive GPA will be at a 3.52 with the following classes for the fall;
Calc 1
Spanish 101
Computer Science 1
Geography

My major is computer science but since the college of engineering is very selective, I will apply for LAS - CS/Math.

Once the fall semester is over, I will have about half of my pre reqs done and complete my application in January. During the spring semester, the rest of my pre reqs will be in progress;
Calc 2
Computer Science 2
Spanish 102
Huaminities

I also spoke to an admissions counselor and they told me that since I am applying for junior standing, I will need calc 3 completed before term of entry in which my case is fall '10

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

heck yea. I’m just excited for school. I hate sitting around

oh wow, I think you def. have a very good chance.
Since you have over 30 credits, they will only look at your high school transcript as a proof of graduation, and no act.
Also, are you going to be taking Calc 3 in the summer since it is required as a junior transfer??
Finally, do you have any suggestions/recommendations for me as a sophomore transfer, and do you know how much
emphasis they will put on my H.S. transcript compared to my college transcript?
I’m going to try to get a 4.0 this semester with 15 credits, and apply to LAS -Econ major…:slight_smile:
I will also probably send my second semester midterm grades in March…

Well I called U of I yesterday and spoke to an undergraduate admissions counselor about the whole calc 3 ordeal. I told him that I would much rather save that class and take it at U of I for a number of reasons. Mainly because I will have 60 credits and I really don’t want to take more classes after that at my CC. Also, because I am still at a CC, my resources aren’t as great for calc 3; teachers, tutors, etc. So I’d prefer saving it and taking it at U of I (hopefully if I get in). My recommendation for you as a sophomore transfer is to make sure you can meet freshman admissions because they will look at your high school transcript. Get in touch with a transfer counselor, call and e-mail them for all your questions. I have spent a lot of time calling and e-mailing counselors that I think they’re sick of me now lol. Retake the ACT if you have to for an improved score. Some great news that I found out today is that my geography teacher used to be a professor at U of I, I was pretty happy when he stated that. I’m going to ask him for a letter of recommendation at the end of the semester. You should find out of there are any professors at your current school that are from U of I. Good luck hopefully we can accomplish this thing together.

Thanks a lot for your input illini. I hope we can both get in next year and maybe see each other at the campus :slight_smile: By the way, do you know how much emphasis the admissions will put on my high school grades compared to my college grades? Will the be like 50:50?

Ya I think your high school gpa and college gpa will be looked at equally because you will have less than 30 graded hours.
