The Berkeley Housing Thread

What's everyone planning on doing for housing?

I'm looking at Wada, Channing-Bowditch, and the mini-suites, but am also concerned about these places supposedly not being very social. If Wada is as populated with transfers as I hear, I would think it would still be social.

Are any transfers planning on living in the normal dorms? What about co-ops?

I applied for all the single rooms first.... threw a Wada double room in there for the 5th preference. I can't imagine having another person in the same bedroom as me.

I'm looking at Channing-Bowditch and Wada as well. I've just recently started thinking about Wada more because it seems like it would be more social. The Channing apartments are very tempting though, so i'm uncertain.

You will not get the single rooms unless you are an RA or you have a special need

Well, if that truly is the case, I suppose I won't be living on campus:)

"Wada apartments are only open during the academic year, closing during the winter break."

so we have to throw out stuffs out during winter break?????

You can leave your stuff in the apartment during winter break. The only things you have to throw out are your perishables since the fridge will be turned off.

oh.... so where can we stay during winter break???

i feel the same way as you CAtony

i don't want to room with someone else,
so if i don't get a single
most likely i'll find a studio or 1bdrm apt near campus

i didn't apply for housing yet..
is it first come first serve?
do you have to submit your SIR before you can apply for housing?

No, it's completely random.

You'll have to figure something out on your own. They do not let anybody stay in Wada during winter break-- no exceptions.

It sucks for people who can't just return to their parent's homes.

thanks ektaylor

i was just wondering because i won't be able to commit until at least next week... i am visiting berkeley this upcoming weekend and i still can't decide which school i want to pursue my studies

I'm not so sure you have to vacate the apartments in the Winter. I think that may only be for the units. All it says on the Wada page is you must vacate after the Spring semester, and the contracts are for the 10 month academic year...

Don't waste your picks on any singles, you WILL NOT get them

wada here i come!

that's no guarantee parking space even we live on-campus, right???

which transfer dorms/apartments have single rooms?

dvrjosh,

I live in Wada. You WILL have to vacate during the winter. Even worse, they charge you for that month.
Wada is part of the units since it is in unit 2.

transferpossible,

Listen to Laguna- it is virtually impossible to get a single unless you are an RA. Don't even try or you will waste one of your picks.

joyjoybear,

You are right. In fact, you are even less likely to get a parking space if you live on campus since priority goes to people who need to commute (and rightly so).

I was wondering how you all prioritized your housing app; I have Wada as number 1, but I am unsure about the other units or what to list as a transfer student --I'm not listing Channing-Bowditch with what I hear about their social environment.
