The best advisors we've ever known

For the past 2 years we have had the opportunity to work with the advisors at AU. They have been absolutely fabulous. They have always been there to help our family through major and minor challenges. There have been times I’ve wondered how they could remember everything we had discussed months earlier, it’s like we’re their only family! They have provided creative solutions and truly taken a personal interest in our AU student. I cannot recommend them enough, any family would be lucky to have them on their side. If you wish any additional information I would be happy to provide it, AU Parent

This has been one of the great surprises for us as well. My older d. was at Smith, with a reputation for perhaps the best ongoing advising of any college in the nation. At times, in fact, we thought the advising went overboard!

With my younger one at American, we really never expected anywhere near that level of advising and involvement. After all, it is so much larger, and so much more pre-professional, etc. We have been hugely surprised, and pleased, at so many levels with the advising - I’d have to say that, for us, it was the most important characteristic of our d’s first year. (And it seems to be continuing into this summer.)

Our oldest just graduated from AU and wants to stay in DC, struggling with a tough job market. We have one more student currently at AU and we could not be more pleased with the personal attention we have received. I am glad to hear you had the same type of experience, it is nice to have a chance to share good news.

This is great to hear. Thanks, from the mom of a new student.

If there is anything I can do to help you navigate through any issues. Our oldest just graduated from AU, one more still there, I’m happy to provide the results of our experiences if you ever need them. AU has been great for us.

AUParent, were there any discounts for having 2 there besides the fafsa being less? I have twins and wondered if like GW, they had some kind of sibling discount.
It’s nice to here about the advising…,my son is at a small LAC and I expected (and he received) good advising, but it’s wonderful that AU “shrinks” the school that way.

about a sibling discount. If AU has one I’m sure the advisors would be great advocates for you. It never even occurred to me, but if there’s a next time I will definitely ask! Thanks for the tip.

I have twins starting college in the Fall 2010 and I plan to submit FAFSA in Feb 2010. I believe that I would be required to file FAFSA for each Twin. Could someone please tell me if my understanding about filing FAFSA for each Twin is correct ? Thank you very much

Suggest you post this in the Financial Aid section, where you’re sure to find much expertise.

Thank you for your suggestion. Good idea.
