Grand Theft Auto Vice City and San Andreas, The Godfather, Pokemon and any mario-party.

Recieved Wii and Zelda: Twilight Princess for Christmas. Rivals original Smash Brothers for must fun game ever played. Period.

I second F.E.A.R. Awesome game and ****ing scary too. 4.5/5

UCLAri, I love you. FFIV and VI were, IMO, best of the series.

I'm a retro-gamer, so I consider the SNES era the golden age of RPG gaming.

So, naturally, I love Chrono Trigger, Lufia I and II, Secret of Mana.

A couple of titles to make you scratch your head at - Terranigma and Bahamut Lagoon. Neither released in the United States, but I played them on the SNES in China. Fun games with good stories, both.

For the newer-gen consoles, I like the Suikoden and Tales series, both so VERY underrated stateside (will be getting Tales of the Abyss over FFXII :D), and liked Disgaea and Drakengard (giant flying man-eating babies FTW! :D).

Really want another Chrono game, too - I actually liked Chrono Cross a good deal.

Did I mention I was six/seven during the transition from SNES to the PSX and N64?

BTW, I'm not as big on Uematsu as I used to be. I'm more of a Mitsuda/Sakuraba person, now, with a few lesser known VG composers in my favorites list.

PE,

Oh man, you're young...or I'm old. Maybe both.

I miss the 16-bit era. It was before I was spoiled by the best PC RPGs (which, in my not-so-humble opinion offer better gameplay pound for pound), and it was an era of purely fun storylines.

Your list is great though. I get so many blank stares for Lufia. Slightly fewer for SoM, but many people will respond with, "Oh, I played that one for a little bit..."

For the PS1, the best RPG experience, despite the awful translation, was probably FF Tactics.

Sigh...if only they'd make a new Chrono game. Why does Square never make the games fans want the most?!

Battlefield 2: I've been playing it for a year and a half, since then, it has been the only first shooter person multiplayer that I play. 8.5/10

Oblivion: This action RPG (I think) game is wide, comprehensive, detailed, and non-linear. However, it does lack certain depth; a shortfall of what happens if there are too many quests you can count. Other than that, probably the most significant challenge to many players will be the graphics performance, stunning yes, but also very much demanding. 7/10

World of Warcraft: Grinding and grinding and grinding, and yet, I enjoy this game. There's just something about having to spam the same combination of keys and accomplishing generic quests that only rewards you with experience (to get more quests) and money. 6/10

Call of Duty 2: An excellent sequel to Call of Duty 1. However, the missions for the Russian campaign isn't so memorable and the British campaign retains the same level of enjoyment as its predecessor, as in being average. The American campaign is by far the most memorable and is the reason why you should replay this game. The most annoying gameplay aspect was the fact that enemies kept infinitely spawning; so if you simply remained in one spot, taking cover, and firing blindly onto you enemies, you're not making much progress; no matter how much foes you kill, there'll be more. You basically have to charge in to progress into this game. The 3rd mission for the American campaign is the best example. 6/10.

Sim City 4 + expansion: It's everything you imagine a Sim City game to be in the most optimistic view. However, there are two major flaws that make this wonderful game into frustrating one: once your town/city grows into a modest size, the performance of the game will decrement; it will take at least 1-2 seconds for you buildings to rendered into full detail per magnification (You know, like Google Earth's image). The second is the citizens of your city are dumb, they do not know how to find jobs nor how to drive to it which causes severe unemployment problems. 6.5/10

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault: Solid game that could've initiated a trend of WWII Pacific games had it not been for the poor publicity and numerous shortcomes: modest graphic quality, weird physics behavior, and inaccurate guns when aiming with the iron sights are only few of the problems it had. 5/10

Half Life 2, Act of War: Direct Action, and Warcraft III will be also reviewed soon :D

The best video game at this moment is Gears of War, hands down.

UCLAri, FFTactics?

I loved that game! Even if it could be seen as a veiled attack on religion...:p

You're not old; I'm just young. I'm not exactly your typical gamer - not even your typical female gamer - that's how much of an oddball I am. :p

As for PC games, for some reason, they just don't come to mind when video games are brought up; it's like they are a separate type of game altogether. They handle so differently in some ways that I don't draw too many comparisons between console and PC games, even subconsciously. However, with the whole cross-console and PC releases now, can't help but compare. Movement's a whole lot easier on a console, but a keyboard offers a lot more depth. Peripherals alleviate both, though, and there isn't as much lag on a console (though that's probably just because my computer is really cruddy). Storytelling, though more linear, is better on the console games, mostly due to less depth in the gameplay...

Can't have everything, I guess. :p

But for the PC, I liked Myst/Riven/Uru (haven't played near all of them, though), Age of Empires (LOL), Civilization, Heroes of Might and Magic IV, Call of Duty (if a little brainless at times), Diablo II, and Elder Scrolls: Morrowind.

Didn't really like Warcraft, surprisingly.

Have you played BioWare's games? Neverwinter Nights in particular?

If this doesn't prove I'm a nerd for video games, and a retro-gamer at that, I've played a few of the roguelike games, like Angband. Some of the most difficult, frustrating, yet strangely addictive and rewarding games I've ever played, I'll tell you.

Aw, cripes.

PE,

I'm a big fan of BioWare's games, but my favorite PC RPGs are usually the "sandbox" type (i.e. Morrowind, Oblivion...)

I have a problem though. A big one. I'm a Blizzard fanboy. No wait...I'm addicted to Blizzard. Their lore, their style, their gameplay. I sit and wait eagerly for Blizz to release new games, and can't help but love each one. It doesn't hurt that they usually release good stuff.

I liked Neverwinter Nights, but NW2 hasn't really made a blip on my radar yet.

Birdkiller,

Wow, you're a bit...harsh in your reviews. I think I need to renormalize them. Hahah.

my favourite console games: GTA San Andreas (Damn it's too good, i still play it and go around the whole map), Halo 2, and damn it Super Smash Bros is good

my favourite pc games: Star Wars KOTOR 1/2, Halo, BF1942, Fear, and NFS: MW (runner ups: doom 3, counter strike, half life 2)

Just saw Birdkiller's reviews, and that's pretty tough, indeed!

As a question, do any games get ten, or even a nine on your scale? :p

UCLAri, I assume you like Warcraft games, then?

I dunno, I couldn't get into them. I may give WoW a try, but not before I get Oblivion, especially since I'm not too fond of MMORPGs. I liked Diablo II best from Blizzard, really, but it seems they've discontinued the franchise...

Ah, fanboyism! :D

I'm a huge WoW fan, one level 60, another on the way.

I don't want to sound the death knell, but new non-WoW games from Blizz are not something I'd count on for about...15 years. I mean, a Blizz dev recently said on the WoW forums that they want to make Arthas (the big bad guy in the Warcraft universe) a killable boss. However, the current level cap is 70 with the expansion on the horizon. The dev said Arthas wouldn't be considered until at least level 90.

This means that they're looking to add in at least two more expansions.

They took years to make the first one.

No Diablo III for you! and you! and you! and you!

ARGH!

Most of my favorite franchises have either gone to pits or have been discontinued!

Thanks for rubbing it in...

Well, I've heard that WoW is so insanely addictive that some kid died of neglect while her parents played it.

IIRC, while I was visiting in China, EVERYONE under thirty was playing WoW.

And thus, the PRC decided that it'd put ability limitations on people who play more than FIVE HOURS of WoW a day.

FIVE HOURS?!

Dang.

EDIT: Level 60, huh? Over the hump of equipment, then? Or have they reduced that with the whole "casual-friendly" thing while I haven't been looking?

Nah, there are plenty of casual-friendly moves. The PvP system was revamped to be casual-friendly again, and with the expansion will come tons of quests for those of us who can't devote 5 hours a day.

Still, the best stuff will always be in raids. Oh well for me... :p

The thing is, I don't have enough friends interested in it to go on raids with them, and my experience with other players in MMORPGs has been less than pleasant, and without a few friends to drown them out...

It mostly scales on the enjoyment factor; if there's an aspect or flaw in the game that hinders this enjoyment, the score suffers :) I realize there are moments where many frustrations are implemented on purpose (Like those damn FFX ultra-weapon side quests) though.

Half Life 2: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/review/R81517.html

Note this was written back in 2004, I don't consider HL2 to be "9/10" anymore. I'm going to have to admit that the review is quite biased from the spur of excitement when it was released about two weeks before the review was written. Now, I'd say it's 8/10 :)

GOOD GRIEF!

Yeah, definitely have to weigh your scores. :D

This is why you put most of the raid group except for the leader on /ignore. ;)

Yeah, you umm...wow. That's pretty harsh.

I really don't think this thread is necessary because the best game of all time is obviously....THE SIMS!!!!!!
