Just out of curiosity, what are the best departments in Rutgers? I know the Pharmacy department is great (and not just in NJ to boot). Any other notable departments you guys can list?

its philosophy department rivals that of oxford.

copied this from someone else, so i can’t say for sure the accuracy, but yeah, food science is pretty good, and discrete mathematics.

does that say Rutgers is 5th in the world in Finance. Rutgers isn’t even top 50 in finance in the nation???

nice! this was exactly what I was looking for.

What about their undergraduate programs?

Philosophy, Pharmacy are stand-outs. Business (finance) is good, but not that good. Top 50, not 10.

Isn’t English major as language or literature quite known too?

last semester my philosophy teacher said it was #1 in the world. english is very good as well, many of the professors are well-known in their fields

Rutgers is not #1 in the world in anything.

Philosophy and Discrete Math are top 5 in the world and there are a few obscure majors that are also very highly ranked. Pharmacy is also very good too

most people are business, pre-med/dental, communications, education etc. where Rutgers is slightly lower than other state schools like Penn St., UMD, Binghampton and slightly better than UDEL, Ohio State, UMASS

from [Rutgers, Philosophy: - A History of the Philosophy Department at Rutgers University](<a href=“Rutgers University :: Department of Philosophy”>Rutgers University :: Department of Philosophy) “In the 2009 rankings of the Philosophical Gourmet Report, a ranking of philosophy departments in the English speaking world based on the judgments of over three hundred professional philosophers, the Department of Philosophy was ranked third overall, behind only NYU and Oxford University. Furthermore, it was ranked as one of the top three programs in the English speaking world in the Philosophy of Mind, one of the top two in Epistemology, one of the top four in Metaphysics, and as the overall top program in the English speaking world in the Philosophy of Language.”

at one point it was ranked number one, but that was in 2002 ([Rutgers Focus - Philosophy department rated number one](http://ur.rutgers.edu/focus/article/Philosophy%20department%20rated%20number%20one/1019/)) and number two, but that was in 2006 (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/14/nyregion/nyregionspecial2/14njphilosophy.html</a>).

oh well! my philosophy prof’s mistake, not mine! i dont care lol, i hate the stuff!

yea but how many people major in Epistemology, Philosophy of Language and Philosophy of the Mind???

for us regular people Rutgers is just your typical state school…
