The Best Dorms?

Jester is not supposed to look as bad on the inside, it's just so crowded

Is it just crowded or is it noisy and messy as well? Like are people like roaming around the halls constantly?

I'm a UT grad and my brother is currently a student at UT (and he's lived in three dorms--on campus and off)...here are my two cents. first and foremost....the less you stress about dorms, the better. dorm life is a huge game of luck.....if you end up with a great roommate, that's awesome....if you end up with a bad roommate, then you'll be all the more motivated not to stay in your room 24/7 and instead go out and explore all that UT has to offer.

On campus vs Off campus --- On campus dorms are less luxurious than off-campus....but they still have all the necessities. Being on campus has it's advantages -- you are closer to classes, libraries, activities going on around campus, the gym, etc.....

A lot of people have been writing about Jester and how horrible it is. I never lived there (I lived off campus - Towers), but I had friends who were at Jester and they really liked it. They had their complaints, but every one does.

Off campus dorms:
Dobie-Right off of campus, supposedly decent food, pretty expensive for what you get (unless you have a corner suite). I think they have cleaning service.
Castillian - Probably the cheapest of the off campus dorms. Right off of the drag, which is nice and convenient. The food there has become worse and worse over the years. It used to be the dorm with the best food, now it's not. They have cleaning service, too.
Towers-a few blocks west of the drag. Large rooms, living rooms, closets, cleaning service. The food is good. I don't know the exact percentage, but i'd say that 65% of Towers residents join frats/sororities.

If you are an easy going person, you will be fine with any dorm you are assigned or choose. If you are more particular, I'd suggest off campus.

Remember, it's only a year.....you aren't buying a home......it's college...you spend so much time at friends places, on campus, at parties, at the libraries, etc......you'll be fine!

That’s hilarious. When my dad and I toured Jester this summer, we swore that we’d never go back, because the room felt like prison cells

yeah you get a living room because there are 4 people in the corner suite. Its pretty run down, i wouldn’t call it extremely nice at all

Honestly, I’m convinced that even if you live in a terrible dorm room, you’ll get used to it eventually and it won’t be so bad… I capital H hated my dorm at first, but now I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

One thing to always remember is that your living experience is what you make it. Honestly, are you going to remember the furniture or type of bathroom you had in your dorm room? Or are you going to remember the people and experiences more?

Don’t stress about it - you will make wherever you live feel like home.

San Jac is actually about 2-3 THOUSAND dollars more expensive. It is the nicest dorm, along with Duren. In an effort to save money I chose the honors dorms which aren’t too swanky but are at least close to each other and have a nice little community within them and are near everything I need. I’d rather save money than live in the “nicest” dorm. I am planning on getting an appartment as a sophomore though since they are generally much roomier and nicer for a small variance in price

Personally, the aesthetics of Jester is better looking than the dorms I’ve visited at UNT and A&M.

What are the ~5 newest dorms at ut? I prefer newness above all else xD

San Jac and Duren are the “nicest”, but they are the most costly. My brother is in Duren, and his dorm is quite spacious. The rooms in the first and last floors have 15 ft ceilings! All rooms have private baths as well (same w/San Jac). San Jac is in a prime location, whereas Duren is pretty far from most things, but it’s right on the Drag (Guadalupe St-where they have all the shops and a lot of places to eat) and it’s right across from Kinsolving, an all girls dorm which most ppl go to for food. Hope this helped! My top three choices are San Jac, Duren and Jester, respectively.

are those also the newest?^

San Jac and Duren are the newest. I believe Duren is newer.
