Well, there isn't a housing right by Marshall, but Pardee and Marks Tower are still pretty close (the campus itself is pretty small, so nothing is too bad). New/North and Birnkrant aren't that much farther away. But if you want to be closest, Pardee would probably be the best (known for being a little more social than Marks).

Will I be screwed if I get a triple (since Birnkrant was my first choice..), or is it better than a double since there seems to be two rooms?

I chose New as my first, North as my second, and Birnkrant as my third.

Birnkrant (1), North (2), Pardee (3), New (4), Cardinal Gardens (5)

I really like the Radisson Hotel style and comfort living. Is it a good choice for freshmen to live there while still be sociable? personally i am not a very sociable person but definitely want to be more outgoing in college.

I lived in the Radisson, and if I had a chance to do it over again, I would definitely live in a regular dorm. You can't choose the Radisson, though, jltrex. It isn't an option. It is for overflow students.

While the Radisson had amazing amenities (which would be really hard for me to give up to live in a regular dorm), the social experience just wasn't what I hoped it would be. I mean, you meet people obviously, but the floors (usually) aren't crazy, and people don't always keep their doors open. It is what you make of it, though, so you can still be social, it's just a lot more work.

usc slowly is moving up from a academic standpoint (jumped from #35 to #30) thats big

I hear Radisson spots are only for overflow housing.

Edit: Whoa, three replies in two minutes.

lol.

Yeah, people are placed in the Radisson when all else fills up, or when they apply for housing late, like me. :) It also houses spring admits, but I don't know if they did that this year.

really? because Radisson shows up as an option in our guide book thingie for choosing housing... oh well, I'm still enamored with Parkside. I actually get to be on campus for the admit day on sunday!!! yay :D

Allright so i am a freshmen currently at USC. I live in Century apartments and i will give you the facts. 1) The 1 bedroom apartments are pretty spacious, and its deffinately nice to have the extra space to yourself as opposed to living in the dorms. The 2 bedrooms arent that great, i can accurately say this because i used to live in a 2 bedroom, and about 1 month into the semester i moved into a 1 bedroom. 2) The main advantage of century is not only that you have a lot of space to yourself, which means you can actually do things in your room (wether that be drinking, working, chilling, cooking, partying) these are things that are much easier to do in an apartment 3) The people who live in dorms are barely ever in their rooms. Pretty much you are social all day, and the only time your in your room is to chill with a couple people, to do your work, or to sleep. 4) There are a lot of anti social people in century, however if you actually make an effort to meet people they're are plenty of people here who are really cool.

Based on my experience the RA's at century are pretty strict. I have been written up 4 times and was supposed to get kicked out of student housing, but i appealed. This is largely due to the fact that i have 20+ in my apartment on a regular basis....furthering my point that century is not anti-social (it just depends on YOU). The walls are very thin and the apartments are not in the best shape.

The fact that it is in a dangerous area is correct. Every week or so we get an email from public safety, and about 80% of the crimes occur within a block of century. However, i am frequently out and about at 3am walking back from main campus to century and i have never been approached by anyone, or worried for that matter (i am a guy if that matters).

Parking at century is BY FAR and away the best place of any at USC. This was very important to me as i drive a pretty nice car, and i care about it. It is completely gated, lighted, and only abpout 70% used so there are many empty spaces.

The pool is nice, but rarely used, and hte basketball court is pretty delapatated and not so hot.

Trojan hall is deffinately the worst dorm i would say. The best are New/North and Brinkrant....followed by Pardee i guess (but it is seperated by sex and the majority of people there are pretty ugly (no offense).)

O and the RAddison is siiiiiiiiik, i would deffiantely not mind living there. Great Views, nice beds, nice/new facilities.....however, it is in an awkward location.

Hope this was helpful....im me at g2go1818 if you ever have any questions bout USC.

As a former Century resident myself, I would agree with this assessment. I loved living in Century and thought it was pretty social. I don't know how much it has changed in the last two years (RA's change every year) but it was not strict AT ALL when I lived there. We had alcohol and other um, illegal substances, there all the time and no one ever said a thing. Our RA even helped us carry a keg up to our room once. We even tried to get written up once during the last week of school, but it just didn't happen.

What sucks is that you have no control over what RAs you are going to end up with, when that is one of the things that will really affect your resident experience most.

I think residential living is great for freshmen. I chose Birnkrant and I really hope I get it since I sent mine in around midmarch which sounds sooo late. hope not.

wow my first choice was birnkrant, do you think I'll get birnkrant if I send it in now?
but would pardee be a better 2nd choice
or new? oh also is it easier to get a room without a sink or with?
also isn't pardee single gendered floors, but don't the guys go on girls floors and girls on guys floors so it's okay?

i heard that new/north and pardee are a lot dirtier than other dorms.

is this true?

how does the birnkrant triple work do you guys like it?

Hey I was wondering if anybody knows anything about the Parkside Suites. I visited them over the weekend and they seemed really nice and I def. want to live there next year. But I keep hearing that you have to fill out a supplemental application if you want to live there. Does anybody know if this is true?

From what my host on the Explore USC told me, the Birnkrant Triples have two rooms, one for desks and one for beds.

I think that you do have to fill out a separate little application to live there. It's because it is a special living community- or so it says in the housing book which they sent me in my acceptance packet. Check out the book you got from them with all the housing info in it, it will tell you abuot the extra applicaiton.

how spacious is the birnktrant triple? is birnkrant a very popular choice would i have a hard time getting into it?
