The best GPA in the whole wide world.

Hello,

I live in Illinois, so obviously UofI has been a constant in my "list." However, I'm unsure if I can get in. Here's where you come in. Since I have no idea what I want to major in, let's just consider these tentative stats as for general admission as opposed to any specific college.

GPA: 3.3 UW

ACT: 33

SAT: 2190
CR: 800
M: 660
W: 740

EC's: A lot of music things, more than I can list (but I can't see myself majoring in music, unless like I got a free ride or something). I've swam and played Water Polo for four years, on the Varsity level. I'm a writing tutor at my school. I have some community service hours, but I haven't gone to build houses in Louisiana or anything like that.

I'll give more information on request.

Thanks,
-RD

You’ll probably get in :-)

However, your GPA is a bit on the lower side…hopefully, the quality of your courses make up for that! Good luck!

Thanks.

Any other thoughts?

What is your rank? If it’s at least in the Top 15-20%, then you’re definitely in. Your ACT is very impressive by itself! Check out this link, at the bottom half of the page: [U of I Admissions: Freshman Admission Requirements](http://www.oar.uiuc.edu/future/apply/requirements_freshman.html)

My school doesn’t rank, which adds to my bemusement.

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I’m so glad my school ranks; it’s really nice to know how you compare to your graduating class and I had the pleasure to know that I ranked above 83% (w)/90% (uw) of my class.

My dad has been on a tear regarding this tip that he heard from an acquaintance. Apparently, there’s a “back-door” through the college of ACES in like a business program or something. Does anyone have any information on this?

More general chancing info would help as well. If it’s any assistance, I’ve always had at least one honors class, often two, a semester. I guess it’d be relevant to say that on multiple occasions I petitioned to move up to honors level classes from regular-level classes.

ACES and Business are completely different colleges. I don’t think transferring from ACES to business is easy. I’d recommend that you apply to COB as your first choice. If they deny you, they probably offer you a seat in DGS since your ACT is superb.

I think he meant like taking a major in the agri-business college, but taking no actual agri-business classes, just general business classes. I’m not sure, though. It seems a little dubious.

Shameless bump. And it’s more like ~3.25 UW than 3.3 for the GPA, upon further review.
The signals I’m getting from people either fall into the “no way” or “obviously” camps as far as admissions are concerned. The meeting with my school’s college counselor was particularly disheartening.
