I am a first-year student at the University of New England, Armidale, New South Wales, Australia majoring in English. The college policy permits me to do double major. So, I am just in bewilderment which course should I pick up as my second major. I am devoid of sufficient ideas and knowledge about the best double major combinations. I am in need of advice regarding which the second major would be the best combining major for English.
if you are looking for a ‘combination’ then the major options are:
Psychology, Philosophy, and Linguistics. They all can be similar at times. Even Anthropology, Sociology, and History can work.
Out of all of them with my knowledge I’d be tossed between Philosophy and Linguistics being the most similar to actual English classes.
Do you know what you would like to do job-wise? English has a lot of different paths.
What parts of studying English do you like? Do you like writing, speaking/speeches, learning about time periods or other cultures, grammar? Do you like the sciences, theater, music, math, languages, teaching etc?
Can your advisor give you some suggestions? I am not sure if the second major has to be in the same grouping as the first major.
