The best part of Carnegie Mellon

I am from NC and have never visited the Carneige Mellon campus but have heard great about the place and may possibly apply regular decision. What is the best part about Carnegie Mellon?

From our kid. "being in the same peer. Everyone same level which makes the effort more challenging."

Our S loves his teachers and the challenging program. If you are passionate about what you want to study at CMU you will most likely be happy with the school.

My D loves the school. Teachers ar supportive..interesting group of diverse friends from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Courses are challenging and she has had to participate in study groups which are both fun and interesting. Not much reliance on WHAT you look like, but personality and willingness to explore appear to make you popular and more easily accepted. Good fit for her!

Hard to say one best thing. S is 5th year, double major and a masters, so I'd say the interdisciplinary approach to learning, integrating different schools in the university.

Faculty are actually teachers in addition to researchers. Also, Career Services has been very helpful in finding top internships and job opportunities. Recruiting is heavy esp this year.

I'd have to agree that this is a big strength at CMU. They have done this for years, doing things like bringing Architecture and Engineering together to work on "smart" buildings, using advanced technology in Theater, etc.

The resources are definitely there for a student with wide ranging interests.

Def. The O

My S liked the smaller campus and his particular program (worlds of options), but what tipped the balance was meeting some of the facilty. Very bright, very professional and extremely helpful.

I second the "O". A couple, loaded are always part of my trip to Pgh.

Oh Lord...The O??? have you guys been to gingers...i think not!

What's gingers??

its simply put the BEST FOOD ON CAMPUS. stay away from their little packaged "eggs" they are gross. you should make an effort to go there if you can

does anyone care to hear what is really the best part of campus??? i wont be able to post until next week(massive studying).

hey i posted this a couple of months ago...it has some things you did ask but its is still usefull:

I was a mechE. it's ok. the work load as strange as it sounds is not that bad. Which is contrary to myth. as long as you plan out your time, you will do fine. I made the HUGE mistake of not doing that the first semester...lets just say my hair started to fall out b/c of all the stress. now its much better b/c i plan out my time. the double you are looking for is also a great combo b/c that can be done in exactly 4 years with no overloading(going over the recommended credits).

the people over here are awesome. It has a great blend of Tech, super nerds, party ppl and everything in between. there are lots of clubs you can join as well. Whatever you like its here. and if its not just get 5 ppl to jion an you have a club

housing isnt bad...its kinda expensive tho. lots of my friends want to go off campus. I dont mind tho.

JOB OPP...THEY ROCK!!! everyone who is anyone comes to hire here. the biggest corp all come and small ones too. I think we were ranked best college for employment. which doesnt suprise me. basically you come here and you are gonna get a job. of course there are the exceptions(ppl with really low gpa's and that did nothing all 4 years), but most everyone gets jobs. The career center works hard to help you get internships as well. but most internships are from networking
exception to what i just said
I am a material science major...we are a very small dept. so not many employers come here...we have to go to them. but the name CMU carries you a long way. every mat sci major last semester either went to grad school or got hired.

do i love it here? HECK YEAH!!!!! I love CMU so much. i know many ppl who say that. cmu rocks there is no doubt about it. pittsburgh has some stuff to do but it is no NYC. the prof are all really nice, they love to talk to you. so much opps are here its amazing. I am so happy i chose cmu

Oh, thanks, where on campus is gingers?

And yes I'd be curious to know what's the best part of campus.

The carts own all.

gingers is in tepper.

and carts = msg = early death

except the pho cart
