Binghampton, SBU is best for science, Albany is for political stuff... thats what I hear.

SUNY Buffalo according to the Gourman Report

SUNY Buffalo? Are you serious?

Binghampton is the best according to US News.

I hate that NY couldn't agree on where to put the premier state univeristy so as a result we don't have a UC Berkley or U of Michigan caliber school. All we are left with is four univerities which I would gouge my eyes out before attending.

SUNY Buffalo is best according to US News ranked 77
SUNY Albany and SUNY Binghamton are tied at 116

No, I'm right. See:

Bill-
The original poster was asking about business administration. There is a separate list in US News for that. Binghamtom might be best overall, though. If you have an online subscription to US News Best Colleges, you can check the list for business. I have heard Binghamton is the best of the SUNYs overall. Where are you applying?

My apologies.

In general Bing is the best, but they each have a different focus. So there's no absolute best :) And I know this doesn't concern the OP

yes Buffalo looks like the best SUNY for business... anyone have an idea of what Buffalo's campus is like?

Do not overlook SUNY Buffalo.

Buffalo's campus is ok. nothing impressive. But, neither are any of the suny campuses. Buffalo and Bing. were my backups, though in reality i had no desire to attend either.

I have a cousin who attends SUNY-Buffalo and I have been there many times. It is an extremely big school; so big that last semester they accepted too many students and had to house students in nearby hotels. From what I know Buffalo is the best business school. I am majoring in business and Binghamton and Buffalo were my top SUNYs.

Ahahahaha... it's a joke to see the words "SUNY" and "best" in the same sentence.

Astrid_Assteroid-there is a wide range of abilities among SUNY students but I know some of the very best students from my local high schools went to SUNY colleges. One graduate I know of SUNY Albany is now in a math PhD program at Caltech and two from SUNY Geneseo are now in a Chem PhD program at U Wisconsin (and just got married to each other last week...so life can be very good for SUNY grads).

suny schools can be very good. Depends on what you're looking to study. The only thing i dont like about them is the fact that literally everybody from my HS went to a suny school. There were 600 in my graduating class, and I could only name a handful of people that went on to private colleges. SUNY is a popular choice, but I didnt want to be surrounded by 150 other kids from my high school all over again. I also wanted a challenging atmosphere ... it seems like the only things my friends do at suny schools is party and drink 7 days a week. Just not what I wanted!

Geneseo has really changed over the years from a "party" school to one with an average SAT of 1250!

gomestar,
So let me guess you are from Long Island. As you mention, even the top students basically all go to the SUNY schools. It is not just money, because a few who do not make it into Bing or Gennie will pay the money for mediocre privates such as St Johns and Hofstra. A half dozen will also probably be joining you at Cornell - but that is ok because there is a state-endowed college. There may be 1-2 kids who do go to HYP or some other highly selective school. It just so happens that they are almost always Asian.

So what is it about Long Islanders? How can we be so content with our mediocre State schools?

edad, I am not from NY, but from the posts on cc, there are many who are not content w SUNYS for a variety of reasons (including but not limited to the cold weather and ugly campuses). I have noted that many LI students are now deciding to attend less expensive privates like Elon, and oos public state schools in addition to schools like Hofstra.
