The best thing since getting accepted!

I got into Stern, I suspected that after I got a University Day.

But today when I finally got my Stern acceptance letter I was surprised to see a nice $15,000 Stern Scholarship placed under my cost estimates.

This is awesome considering how hard those scholarships are to come by and the fact that without that scholarship attending NYU would be impossible.

I don't have the letter with me but estimated awards we're

~15,000 Stern Scholarship
~22,000 PLUS Loan
~4,000 Work Study
~2,400 P&L
~2,600 Stafford

I could get a summer job for $5,000+ depending on where I work as well.

Besides this being a boon after I was rejected from my two Ivies, Wharton and Columbia... Im also curious

Does the scholarship also qualify me as a Stern Scholar? (with all the benefits thereof?) or do I just get a nice boost to my payment plan to NYU?

hi, I also got acceptance letter today from Stern School of Business. I desperately in need of money to support study. I'm glad you get your scholarship of $15,000.

How to apply this, is it come with your acceptance letter? I didn't find anything. btw, i'm a canada student..

I think it's financial aid rather than scholarships, and they give it to you based on merit. There's no applications; They just give it to you if your grades are high enough.

I'm not 100% positive though. Could someone confirm?

financial aid is given to you basically if you are poor, phOenix. If you are smart, they give you scholarships.

sogui
ur stats please??

and congrats!!!

haha..i got a CAS scholarship and in the descriptions it said it was based on both merid and need...and i'm definately in muchhh need...13,000 not bad from a school with a bad track record for aid, i cant complain

Iunno, my EFC was 45K and I got a 10K scholarship and like...37K in loans

NYU is extremely unfair with fin. aid. Thankfully I didn't get the short end of the stick, but many did.

my estimated awards are just the same as yours.
but i was curious if this was a good one.
you know,, loans have to be repaid and more than half of the awards are loans. hmmmmmm....... i really need help with figuring out what this financial aid thing means.. T_T i have no clue what's going on. i hear that nyu is not fair with financial aid from a lot of ppl. why is that ???

Read his financial estimate. It's obvious that NYU calls their grants scholarships...

EDIT: In fact, I dont think ANYBODY got a grant. It's all scholarships. Therefore, it's financial aid.

Does anyone know if these carry through all four years? The letter I got looks like it could just cover 06-07......................

i only got $10k per year...but i'm happy.

eji, same with me, but dang......NYU is 47K to begin with!! Even WITH a 10K scholarship, it is still 37K, more than a lot of other colleges like Umichigan and UVA

This is interesting, I cant wait to ask their Fin.Aid office...

I mean I applied to other schools that have MUCH better financial aid programs AND where I was FAR more qualified for a scholarship/grant.

TCU gave my family under 4,000/year in grants and 9,000/year in scholarships...

It would seem unlikely that if we only qualified for 4k per year from such a school based on financial need... I doubt NYU would have any reason to give me 15k per year based on need, especially considering their stinginess.

Perhaps its a mix of need and merit, but 15k is still quite a bit (and does it matter that mine was labeled a "Stern Scholarship"?)

This should be interesting.
