The best undergraduate EECS

PLease post your opinion.

1 CALTECH=CMU=MIT=STANFORD=UCB

2 others.....

:)

Olin,......

Olin......

Why do you say Olin?

Maybe they're bias?

but, yea I agree with Arwen they're pretty much equal.

Olin's CS is probably much weaker than "CALTECH=CMU=MIT=STANFORD=UCB." As for EE, I think it depends on what you want most from your undergrad education. If it's the hardcore engineering curriculum, go to a "tech" school. If it's the cool people you want to meet, I'd say Stanford. If it's teamwork and skills for a world that isn't purely technical, I'd say Olin. Sure there is a lot of overlap, so please don't hold me to my subjective statements, but these are the images I got from my research of the schools. (I don't know enough about CMU and UCB to comment on them.)

According to US news UCB is the best place for EE. But for the combined program, EECS, there are no rankings I know of. CS, at least for undergraduates is a little more than programming. I am trying to decide what major to pursue in college two years from now and where to attend. From what people are telling me in my HS, Olin is at least as good as anywherelse for EECS. Also, it is free. The only problem is I am not sure whether I can get in. I guess I will apply for all these schools.

Do most schools have a combined EECS program? I thought MIT was rather unique in this respect... (But I don't know too much about this)

CMU's EE program isn't really a top program. It might be ok, but I've never heard about it (don't think it's top 5). Their CS program is outstanding.

"Best" can have many meanings, but MIT's program has the most prestige. Generally, we are #1 at EE and always top 2-3 in CS. The quality and difficulty of education is probably comparable at Caltech and Berkeley.

The U.S. New and World Report used peer assessment data (i.e., opinions of deans of engineering schools) to rank the undergraduate engineering programs at universities at which the Ph.D. is the highest degree. Top school was MIT (4.9 out of 5.0) and tied for second were Berkeley and Stanford (4.7 each).

Berkeley doesn't dispute this ranking When this report came out, U.C. Berkeley's School of Engineering had this tagline on its website: Berkeley ranked #2 in the world. The linked article reported the U.S. News and World Report.

What do you expect Berkeley to do? "USNews ranks Cal #2 but is mistaken" ? That would sure make for a good headline :-)

^^ That would have been a great headline!
