AH, good idea to ask this. As an incoming out of state transfer student with very minimal familiarity with the area, Im curious to see what people have to say.

As far as pizza goes though:
During transfer orientation, my dad, an alum of 83, took me to a pizza place that he frequented back in the day thats south on 5th near glenn ave called Rotolos. It’s cary-out only, and it is a couple miles away, but the pizza is absolutely amazing and I would recommend it to anyone.

I love this question. Columbus is a great food town. I tried to stick to the immediate campus area but sometimes I ranged north and south on High Street. It was hard to not give recommendations for the whole city, but I figure there’s Yelp for that.

FOOD

Pizza:
Hound Dogs! Up high street. Seriously delicious pizza (get the smokin’ joes crust.) Notoriously bad sit-down service - it’s kind of a dive, and some people are into that. Delivery service is good.
Clever Crow. More of a foodie eat-in type place.
Adriatico’s. On campus. I don’t love it but a lot of people I know do.

Italian Restaurant:
My absolute favorite is Vino Vino in Grandview. Highly recommended. I don’t know about those on campus, but I’ve heard of good ones in Italian Village, which is close to campus. If you’re willing to drive there are many good options around.

Chinese Restaurant:
Wish I knew! My brother likes Joy Village.

Other Ethnic Restaurant:
The North Market has a great range, and it’s technically walkable but best reached by bus. Columbus in general has spectacular world cuisines, but most of them are in random places. There’s a good Bubble Tea place on campus.
Breakfast:
Eggfast is good, but on the pricey-for-fast-food side.
Nancy’s is if you’re in the mood for greasy-spoon.
Northstar is great, more of a brunch-with-the-parents place.

NIGHTLIFE

College/Dive Bars: the Bier Stube. Ugly Tuna has the best deals but it’s not very authentic.
Upscale Bars & Clubs: I wouldn’t know, but there are plenty in the Short North.

I’m trying to make these places actually on campus rather than stuff in grandview/short north but some are hard and have to be in other places (such as the deli).

Deli: Katzingers…its not on campus but if you have a car, take the short drive down to get it…totally worth it.
Diner: The Blue Danube (just usually known as The ‘Dube’)…they even have blue plate specials!
Pizza: Cantoni’s or Hound Dogs.
Italian Restaurant: Mama’s pasta and brew or Sicilia.
Chinese Restaurant: Moys or No. 1 chinese (people hate on No. 1 cause its not nice looking but I’ve NEVER known anyone to ever get sick from it and its a ton of food for 5 bucks)
Other Ethnic Restaurant: ALI BABA!! It is a favorite of mine and many many others on campus…it is SO good!!
Coffee: Buckeye Donuts
Breakfast: Buckeye Donuts

NIGHTLIFE

College/Dive Bars: TOO’S! Hands down, it has the BEST deals on campus…there is no competition. Other bars have tried to copy their power hour (1 dollar everything from 7-9 on sat nights) but they never can do it as well. Its a total basement bar but you’ll get to know every bartender and the owner who is there every night. Out-R-Inn has Mug Nights which is awesome too.

Is Tommy’s Pizza any good? It is right behind my dorm (Jones Tower).

I’m looking on Google Earth; there are some chain restaurants I recognize, but I also notice two bars, one called The Thirsty Scholar, and one called Little Bar, as well as The Library Bar and Scarlet & Grey Cafe. Know anything about these places?

Tommy’s is good, but it’s a little pricier than some of the alternatives. I haven’t been to the bars on North Campus before, but you can always poke your head in and see what’s up. They won’t charge cover but will card.

They’re serious about underage drinking in Ohio, eh? Only the midtown clubs here ever really card anyone. It’s a good thing I have a quality fake I guess.

I’m from New York, but Ohio State is in the Midwest, which is Chicago’s territory. Which style of pizza is in Columbus? If it is Chicago style, I am going to go beserk.
