I got my first acceptance today! It wasn't for musical theatre, so don't shoot me, but I got into Fordham, Lincoln Center Campus, with a major in communication and minor in drama. Kind of one of my safeties considering I didn't have to audition. I was just excited that's all, don't know if that will fit in a category on the list or not. I probably won't get into many or any BFA programs I auditioned for though, so I'm just sharing this good news:)

Yeah, me too; I'm sure she'll be getting good news from somewhere. Also, congrats on your son's direction of the play! I told my d about it and she said she got the notice of the auditions on the same day as auditions, so she couldn't prepare in time. Although I STILL don't know if she could have since she's only a freshman. I'm sure we'll go to see it; we usually see all the musicals there since we're only 1 1/2 hours away.

Congrats cindy013 - That's great for you! Of course you deserve to go on a list...I'm sure you'll fit somewhere (even if a new category must be made!!!!)

Cindy, congrats on Fordham!! It most certainly should be on the list and think positively about your other schools. Be realistic, sure, and don't count on getting into all the BFAs but also go in CONFIDENT. Confidence needs to be exuded when you audition. You're great and know that. Right now you have a school you can go to and see what else develops. It is really early in the process yet.

Good luck,
Susan

cindy013,
Love that 1st acceptance! Takes a lot of the pressure off.
rossji, re: short notice of audition. I would have given you a heads up, but I only learned that the proposal was accepted after the play had been cast! Apparently there had been a delay in getting the rights. Initially, that threw them out of the running. Then approval came through at the last minute. My son said they really didn't have time to advertise auditions but was pleased at the turn-out. I guess he had to rush to squeeze them in before the break. It's been quite a learning experience for them all. Tell your daughter I'll try to keep her in the know!

I really don't think the freshmen could do the GAP shows anyway. I'm sure my D would have tried out if she could but shows are off limits this year. She is happy to be the pianist for the show but I'm sure would actually audition if it were allowed but I truly do not believe it is so.

Jasmom, my D is FINALLY home, got here past midnight last night and I did mention about your son directing the show. She recalled at the GAP show she is working on that someone came over to talk to her show's "team" and excitedly mentioned that their show was approved. Do not know if it was your son or not. She knew about Adam Guettel though!

Susan

PS...ChrisNoo, if you are reading this, I told my D that you got in and she was very excited for you! She said when she decided to talk to someone auditioning that day, she thought, maybe this person will end up at CAP and I'll know him when he comes and sure enough, it happened!

Jane, told her about your D and she said that PLEASE if your D wants to visit at NYU for her to get back in touch with her and she'll have her any time. She was real happy for her outcome as well, so pass it on.

Susan -

I just want to 'publicly' say a BIG "Thank You" for your support and help and information sharing these past 6-8 months.

We directly benefitted from your sharing of knowledge - and my D went into her audition with ALOT of information - gathered from this list!

We are all on cloud nine here - and it even snowed here today (Portland OR)
My daughter's favorite thing in life!

janwnw

Thanks for the sweet thoughts, Jane, but honestly, I am happy to share and I know my daughter was too and I'm sure you can do the same next year and pass it on to the next crop that comes along here. We just have to meet now :D.

(we have PLENTY of snow here!)

Do people have to be academically accepted for CCM before they can audition? I know a lovely young woman who tells me she is scheduled to audition for them in January, which leads me to think that she had been accepted academically and is now on to the second stage. Am I wrong?

It's interesting to hear that Point Park gives candidates the news so quickly! One of my D's friends (who is older than her!) apparently already auditioned there for drama and, according to friends, was told almost immediately that he was in. I am guessing that this is unusual, right?

Lisa

My only experience has been the the Drama Department, but I don't think that is necessary as I had two students get accepted based on their audition before they had even applied. MT may be different

my post was in response your CCM questions. I know absolutely nothing about Point Park. Sorry, no help to you there.

you don't have to be academically accepted to ccm before auditioning. i believe you do have to apply.

Oh, I see. Wow, it's a lot to keep track of. Some places you have to apply first and be invited to audition, and some you don't. By the time it's my D's turn, I will actually have a handle on this, thanks to all of you. This list is a God send.

NotMamaRose...I don't think any of the schools let the applicants know as quickly as Point Park. There are two acceptances there. Both pretty quick. Academic and MT. They are rolling admission and rolling acceptance to MT/Theatre/Dance. Another school that is rolling admission for MT is U of Arts. They let you know about 3 weeks after auditioning and do not wait until all have been seen.

I think I have this right, you do not have to be academicaly accepted to CCM before auditioning. That said, our experience has been that the school was very quick in providing us an acceptance and also to begin communicating to us information on scholarships and financial aid. My D is not scheduled to audition for several weeks, but we have known for some time about her academic acceptance. Also if you are interested in UC scholarships, you should have your application in by now. The interviews for their Cincinnatus, Founders and University scholarships are scheduled for February 11th.

Hope this helps.

PPU lets students know very quickly for academics. How quickly they let you know for MT and Acting depends on when you audition and how many others auditioned that day; usually, it is much more quickly than most other schools (the norm is 2-3 weeks). But that having been said, I know of a student who found out he was admitted to UM for MT three days after his audition and a different student who had the same experience with CCM - so you never know! (Those were of course exceptions, but sometimes such things happen.)

My D auditioned at PPU on December 9th and we received an acceptance letter in the mail on December 13th. She also talked to atleast one other friend who happened to audition on the 9th and she also received her acceptance on the 13th.

I got accepted academically to Emerson. I was deferred for mt until after I audition, obviously, but it's one step closer to my #1 school!

My D got an academic acceptance at PPU today. She won't audition until February. so we get to wait for more info.
