dancemother,
There is another thread that lists acceptances by screen names. If you are interested where a particular person was accepted I would look there.
MTaussie

Ithaca - Rejected
Hartford - Rejected MT (accepted academically)
Roosevelt/CCPA - Waitlisted

But accepted MT to Millikin and Catholic - GOING TO MILLIKIN! Good times!

Hahaha, not going to lie, I'm slightly embarassed to admit all of these, but I'm getting such kicks out of this. I feel so un-alone! ;)

Anyway, here's my tragic list of mt rejections:

Syracuse (academically waitlisted)
Ithaca (academically accepted and attending!)
Hartt (academically accepted)
CMU
CCM (academically accepted)
U Mich
NYU
Emerson (academically accepted)
University of CT (acting) (academically accepted)
Boston Conservatory

Yep, that's all painfull 10 of them. It's great that I can laugh at it now :D

^So what will you be majoring in at Ithaca, then?

English with a theater minor... for now. I might change it. I'm going to see how this year goes.

My MT/Acting Rejections:
CMU, Juilliard, Rutgers, Penn State, USC, Webster, Michigan, Miami, BoCo, Otterbein.

Exactly the point BroadwayBound! Obviously you're not alone. It may sound corny, but we're all in this together.

Be proud that you can laugh at yourself and have a fabulous time at Ithaca next year!

We really, really are.

I am and thank you! :)

Alrighty, I am SO jumping on this bandwagon!

REJECTED!
UMich
CCM

But accepted at BoCo (and attending!) and Point Park.

STILL haven't heard from our friends at NYU. Got a good feeling though. :)

Every rejection is a testament to our determination to succeed. The fact that we tried, were rejected, but kept trying shows our courage and commitment to our dreams. Hey - just for the heck of it, I'll list my rejections back in 1999-2000, the first time I did this whole thing.

REJECTED for Fall 2000
UMich
Ithaca (accepted academically)
CMU (accepted academically)
FSU (accepted academically)
Emerson (accepted academically)
NYU

Accepted back then at U of Arizona and UArts and went to U of Arizona - big mistake in my case, but all's well that ends well, and I think going to BoCo is a very good outcome indeed.

Yay for all us who never give up!

That's it in a nutshell! With passion, determination, and drive, those who persevere can really go far to achieve their goals. Keep to your goals and you can overcome setbacks, make some revisions at various junctures and your drive will take you far. Keep reaching!

My first time auditioning for music theatre prgrams, I got rejected from my first choice school, Elon University. But in 3 weeks I will be graduating from there with a B.F.A. in music theatre. I learned a lot from not getting into that program and it pushed me to get really good really fast so I could audition again. Being rejected is not the end of the world. Try to figure out why you didn't get in and work on fixing it. Everything works out for a reason, so don't be too hard on yourself. Rejection comes with the buisness and although it is really hard at first, it gets easier every time! Because, a lot of times it's not that you're "bad" you're just not what they are looking for.

Good luck to everyone haeding off to school... it'll be the best four years of your life. I am really sad to be leaving such an incredible place like Elon.

Elonactress,
Congratulations on being persistent and smart and making your dreams come true! You deserve to be commended not only on your tenacity, but also on your obviously great attitude. Your message is very welcome here. :)
I wonder if you would mind taking a few moments and telling us more about your story. You say that Elon turned you down the first time, and yet here you are, ready to graduate. Did you take a year off, refine your skills and presentation, and audition again? Did you matriculate somewhere else, work on your skills, and audition before transferring?
I am sure I am not the only one here who would like to hear your story. I apologize in advance if you have already posted this .... if you have, please just point me in the right direction, as I am interested.
I would also love to hear more about the Elon program, and what you think its strengths and weaknesses are. Is it strong in acting?
Lisa

Lisa (NotMamaRose) I hope you will visit the Elon thread on CC that I started and many wonderful people have added to. Elonactress has shared some of her story, but I can't remember if it was on the CC or in person when we met her. We've had the pleasure of getting to know her and seeing her perform. I believe she went to Elon freshman year in a different major, auditioned and got into a musical production, and soon after auditioned and got into MT, after she was already a student there. They love her at Elon, and we do too!

Elonactress, of course you'll want to confirm or change what I have just reported!

I've also shared our story on the Elon thread, and my son will be a freshman MT major in the fall at Elon! Couldn't be happier!

Lisa, I didn't answer your question at the end above, but we think Elon is a strong triple threat program, as we've seen incredible acting, singing, and dance in the shows we've been to. You asked about acting, and my son was also impressed with acting classes he got to attend twice.

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you all... we've been very busy having Jason Robert Brown here this weekend... and Adam Guettel is here today! YES!!!!! It's been a truly incredible weekend. Well, anyways, yes, ericsmom is right. I had cancelled all of my other auditions after Elon because it was such a perfect fit and I was very confident about my audition. I had already been accepted to the school so I had decided I would go here no matter what. When I got my letter I was crushed to say the least. I tried to figure out an alternate plan, but it didn't work out for me and I came to school as a communications major. First week of school, there were auditions for "The Music Man" so I busted out my best 16 bars and got cast as Ethel Tofflemeir. It is sort of rare that someone not in the department gets in a main stage production so they wanted to know about me. I said I was turned down from the department and was encouraged by the professors working on the show to try again. I had some meetings with an acting professor before I auditioned to improve my monologue and figure out what else had to be better in order to get in. I worked really hard and was accepted that first semester. I was caught up with the rest of my class by the end of freshman year.

Now, I think of it as a great thing. I was never the girl who was "the best" in her class. I've always had to work hard and I've gotten to be really good because of that work. There's talent and there's practice... you need both. And thankfully, the practice paid off.

I would be more than happy to talk to anyone about Elon. I have posted quite a bit on the Elon thread. You can PM me if you have any other questions. It's a great place... and ANYONE looking for a great music theatre program should be looking there.

Hello,

I decided to join this website so I could vent and find comfort in the company of others who did not get into schools either. I am trying to look on the bright side... but I was not accepted into any of the schools I was considering. Unfortunately, this leaves me shocked that I did not get into one and left without a college that I actually want to go to. I know these schools are incredibly difficult to get into, but it just feels horrible getting rejection after rejection after rejection.. I'm not sure if i should go to one year of college and apply to theater schools again, or go through two years, transfer, and finish out at a liberal arts school. Later, mastering in acting or mt. any suggestions, ideas, or sympathies..

Quick question! Has CMU sent out rejection letters or do people just know from looking on the website?
