Is the Big ten overrated? Why do we get crushed in other confrences?

Are you referring to college football? If so, I think it's only OSU getting crushed. The Big Ten is a combined 31-8 going into conference play, so i wouldn't call that getting crushed by other conferences. Since we're talking overrated, I'll just stick with ranked teams. Wisconsin has looked solid at 3-0. Penn State has looked dominant at 4-0. Illinois lost a shootout to one of the top scoring teams in the country, not really "crushed". And Ohio State? Ok, they got crushed. Not to mention Minnesota and Northwestern, both 4-0 to start the season. So I'm not sure where the overrated comes in. Or the "crushed." Have people been saying the Big Ten is the best conference in the country or something? If this has nothing to do with football, then not sure what you mean.

Only dOSU has been getting "crushed" lately in big games due to Tressel's stubborness in playing "Tressel-ball".

The B10 is .500 against the SEC this decade (people seem to forget that for the 2006 season, the B10 was 2-1 vs. the SEC in bowls and last year, UF lost to UM which lost to App. St.).

People also seem to forget that the B12's best team the past couple of seasons - Oklahoma lost to Boise St. and got crushed by WVU in consecutive bowl games - and yet, there wasn't talk about how "weak" the B12 was.

PSU and Wisc. are top 10-12 teams and dOSU, despite the loss to USC is a top 15 team.

Any national title contenders here? Not really (maybe PSU, but they took too many hits on defense due to injury/suspensions).

But along the same lines, there aren't any truly horrible teams either as you will find in some of the other BCS conferences.

The Pac-10 is really having a down year. They took a huge risk to schedule challenging games and they have ended up having almost the worst case scenario. Give them credits for the bold schedule though.

^ Well, who would have figured scheduling Mountain West teams as "bold" 6-7 years ago?

well, they had played significantly more games against opponents from major conferences: ohio state, penn state, purdue, michigan state, oklahoma, oklahoma state, maryland, baylor, georgia, and tennessee. that means on average, every team plays one team from major conference and most of them were figured to be at least decent, if not top teams at the time of scheduling.

Penn State is definitely in the national title picture.

The Big What-What?

These things always cycle, and college football is getting more parity it appears (based on the number of upsets). There is always "wait til next year".

Wisconsin just lost yesteday :D GO BLUE!

I don't have an answer for why the Big 10 is "overrated"... but I guess it's just a lot of team spirit and the teams are very competitive with each other than outside of it.

It's primarily perception due to dOSU choking in OOC games (and yet, when Oklahoma does it, it somehow doesn't affect the B12).

Plus, when Wisc. loses to a weakened UM team, it's b/c the B10 is just a "bad" conf.

But when FL loses to a mediocre Ole Miss team (at home no less), it's b/c the SEC is so "tough".

Same goes when a bad Miss. St. hangs tough against LSU and barely loses to Auburn (3-2). Mind you, this is the same Miss St. that LOST to Louisiana Tech and got crushed by Georgia Tech.

Same goes w/ Tenn that lost to a horrible UCLA team by 1 more point than Auburn (how overrated is Auburn?).

And Alabama lost to Louisiana-Monroe last season and people just seem to overlook that.

Another overrated team is Mizzou.

Penn St. beat a good Illinois team by a wider margin than Mizzou did and yet is ranked below Mizzou (Mizzou's D is very suspect, having given up 42 pts to Illinois).
