So I opened my laptop, I have a Toshiba satellite A505 and it's 14 days old and saw that I was not connected to a wireless network. As far as I know I'm supposed to always be connected automatically(I have ResNet) anyways it wouldn't connect to Ut's restricted wireless network. After a few attempts the blue screen of death came out of nowhere. It crashed about an hr ago. I called toshiba support center and they told me to restart and press f8 a lot and click on last system configuration or something like that. Anyways it works fine now, but I'm kind of ed this happened b/c the laptop is new. My uncle (who's really smart w/computers) told me this can happen any time to anyone and shouldn't happen again. He said I should get a memory stick just in case. However the computer is new and that's why I'm worried and *ed. Yesterday I had to restore my computer to factory settings b/c I forgot my password. This is the only big thing that has happened w/my computer. Anyways after I restarted the computer it said that there were new windows updates and so I clicked install and it wanted to install internet explorer 8. I didn't want internet ex. 8 so I said don't install. Anyways I'm mostly just ***ed off b/c like I said this laptop is new and should work perfectly but that damn blue screen came up. Anyways does anyone have experience with this before? Is it understandable that this could happen even thought the computer is brand new?

On another note I bought it from best buy which has a 14 day return policy and guess what? Today's day 14 yippeee!

Also something else I would like to say is that I don’t think resnet is very reliable. I’m frequently getting messages like internet ex. cannot connect to the webpage, but I just refresh the screen once and it’s fine of course but it’s annoying and this never happened before resNet also when I use my drop down box to go to a website it frequently says oops this link appears to be broken and again I just click refresh and it goes to the webpage I want correctly. Basically I just don’t think ResNet or my laptop is worth the money at all. Also, does ResNet provide some type of antivirus thing called bevoware? I think I’ve heard this before. Because I want to uninstall the norton that came with my laptop and install kaspersky instead, either way I just want to get rid of norton.

Wireless resnet is not reliable in a lot of places. It barely works in Kinsolving, didn’t work in my room, was crappy in my friend’s room in Jester. When you plug it in the port, it is way more reliable. If you have it plugged in and it’s messing up, might wanna go to the FAC and talk to the computer guys.

wow this is insane. i just got my laptop last month and the same blue screen of death popped up for me two days ago. i entered safe mode to google the problem and found out about the BSoD. i called best buy the same day and they said that i needed to bring my laptopto the store (by this point i was really frustrated too). I called again today and restored my computer to an earlier date. now everything seems fine. deja vu

^Yeah, that’s what I did as well, I configured my laptop to an earlier date, well, technical support did lol. But I know other people who have also experienced the same blue screen of death this past week, so maybe it has something to do with ResNet or they’re just a lot more common than I thought they were…but my warranty on my laptop is for a year so I’m thinking I’ll just send it in christmas break or something. I just hope nothing major happens till then.

I jsut went to get the laundry last night and when I got back, the blue screen was on my brand new HP laptop. I was really mad and had to restore my entire system. I swear, some of these compsci majors really have no lives…

I got the blue screen of death while doing my homework at the FAC computer lab on the second floor on thursday. I was ****ed, because I had just finished and was about to print it out.

Did Windows Update install anything recently on your computer?
There was a Vista update that kept making my new HP BSoD once it installed. After I found out which one did it, I uninstalled it and that fixed the problem.

Don’t know why my computer keeps crashing, but I found out the reason I can’t connect to my wired/ethernet cable internet is b/c there’s something wrong with my actual port.

Nvm i think it’s my computer it crashed again. God this is like the 5th time I think? I’m going home labor day weekend and when I do I’m going straight to Best Buy and getting my money back my god! I called Toshiba and they told me to send it in to a service center for a few weeks…first off I don’t have a few weeks to spare w/out a pc and chances are it will probably come back worse than before. Seriously, if anyone is thinking about buying Toshiba, try to try it out first or something. I heard so many good things from friends but this one I have…I don’t know if it’s the brand or just that I have the horrible luck to get the one defective one out of a million.

And now for the 6th time. I’m just going to use the computer labs now. The intervals between crashes keep getting shorter and shorter first it was about every three days and now it happens every time I use it.

No offense, but you’re clearly doing something wrong. I haven’t had a computer crash on me in years and years, and I consider myself a “power user” and I do a lot of tasks and such at once.

I’m sorry you’ve experienced these problems with your computer. That must really suck, especially since you need it in school and such. I also have a Toshiba Satellite and i’ve never had an issue with it, never a virus or anything knock on wood. Hope you get everything sorted out at best buy

Yeah, I’m going tomorrow, I actually found out what was wrong with it: the network adapter (the slot that you plug the ethernet cable in) so I’m either going to exchange it for a new one or take it to a service center. I’ve found that if I go out of my dorm room and use wireless network instead everything’s fine and no blue screen of death so at least now I know what the problem is and I can fix it. Plus I have a warranty so it won’t cost me a thing. I hope everything goes well tho, like I said in a previous post (I think) I have horrible luck when it comes to computers. Not sure if I mentioned it before but my last pc, I opened it from the box and there were pixels missing, like what are the chances of that? Needless to say I exchanged it.
