What is the Box?
Im just beginning my application, and I’ve had trouble with this part. Am I sending in a legitimate box with a memento within, or just uploading a picture? And all I upload is a picture without context?
I’m also applying to Rice! As to my understanding, “The Box” is just an image that you have to upload. You shouldn’t worry much about it. It won’t make or break your application, and its main purpose to is give the admissions officers a break from reading so many application. In the past, I’ve read posts of people who’ve uploaded pictures of memes, themselves, animals, sceneries, food, anything related to extracurriculars, or random pictures that they like.

Search for Rice Box threads on CC from past years under Rice University. There are lots of helpful responses. My daughter, who is a creative humanities type, drew scanned and uploaded a picture that included some of her favorite literary quotes. Some people she knew uploaded pictures of their pets, families, political statements, etc. Its gives Rice a glance into what makes you tick. The response will be different for each person.

@TrapNumen jokes about rice the food anything to do with the food(rice) would not be good. My son was a stem major and did a drawing using water colors of something he was passionate about. He was good at drawing. I believe he uploaded as an image.
