The Box

newyorkfromcali your post gave me a few laughs
those are some wacked up ideas. fingernail clippings ha wonder how you would explain that!
Those are risky, but that means they are memorable. But how were these looked upon? i mean... playboy, i'd guess that was frowned upon.

I think last year somebody on here said their friend put a picture of two lions having sex (he was apparently big into zoology). I'm not sure how that worked out for him in the end...

can i put in a CD of my playing the piano? will they listen to it?

what you put in there has to fit into the box.

On that note, can I put in a web address of a song I wrote?

If it fits in the box, you can put whatever you want. I can't guarantee that they'll visit your web address, but if you want to write it down, I'm sure you can.

*It's a little unlikely that they'll go to the website or listen to a cd because they don't always read applications where they have access to such media -- my interviewer last year told me this, saying that she often took a stack of apps to starbucks or elsewhere to look over them. Once they go home, they're not going to be like "oh yeah, Joe Blow had this website he wanted me to visit, lemme cancel my life and do that."

You certainly could put it in if you really want to, but make sure there's nothing you'd rather do instead. (or you could include the URL as an addendum)

You could, however, make a fold out of your song lyrics.

quick question, although it might sound stupid:
if you want to put a picture, do you print, cut, and paste it in the box, with siccors and glue??

yeah, you can do that, it's fine.

...Crap...mine didn't fit into the Box...Oh well. :)

I used double sided tape for my picture, if it matters..

I Cannot find the box in my application!!! ahah!! i sent in common app.. is it on the supplement? becuase i don't see it!

It's on the Rice Signature Page.

I just drew a picture of a star because one of my majors will be in astronomy. I felt so rushed that I didn't take time to make it more creative and now I'm afraid I'm going to regret it.

box is on the Rice supplement to the common app

I drew a picture of a star, too, natb22! Except mine was a sun with a smiley face. Then I coloured it yellow and the sky blue. Rice will probably reject me on the basis that I have terrible colouring skills.

Coloring outside the lines is sort of like thinking outside the box, isn't it?

i ended up writing a poem. I think that poem is the best part of my application.

"thinking outside the box" is the most popular theme for rice boxes... that and gluing rice to the paper.
so don't do it.

would it be risky if you just said

"i think here, but i would like to think here" drawing an arrow to inside the box and outside the box
