The Bragging Thread

D16 got voted to her school’s prom court. The kids won’t know until prom who in the court will be Prom King and Prom Queen.

My kid once again dropped cellphone into liquid. Immediately wiped it dry and immersed in bag of rice. 48 hours later cell phone seems viable. Any correlation with the fact that we don’t get "“free” upgrades any more and that kiddo has used up all of our old ones?

@Wien2NC , You mean you were on TV??

@HiToWaMom

yeah. December 2007. I was getting trounced but surged into the lead right at the end of Double Jeopardy on the category “French Class.” then we all blew Final Jeopardy but I bet the least so I backed into a win.

next game, I had the lead in Final Jeopardy after two answers – but the lady doctor from Michigan got it right too, ending my extremely brief reign as Jeopardy champ. it was a lot of fun.

oh, and many years ago I shook hands with Charles Barkley.

@BunsenBurner: "Nice, MG! We got rid of our playset by selling the house. "

We got rid of ours by some eyebrow-raising hefting maneuvers over the back fence. Whew! (This was a Dad-to-Dad transaction.)

@Wien2NC , Wow, impressive! That’s something you can really brag about!

thanks @HiToWaMom !!!

D17 went to doctor by herself. Mild sprain. So proud.

H and I went to my folks today and asked them which calendars they were actually using they admitted they were only using ONE calendar in mom’s purse and ONE calendar by dad’s computer. They found having the 3 other calendars around the house just confusing and were happy when I offered to take them away.

I got them to add to BOTH of their calendars all the events we are attending with them or driving them to. That worked well. I have told my sibs to do the same for anything they are doing with the folks.

I’m relieved and I think it will help them and us be better in synch.

So proud of my just-turned-18 daughter. She has become a speaker for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). She went through training that they offer to help you learn to tell your story - in her case, being the sibling of a severely mentally ill young man, and subsequently developing anxiety. She has spoken four times already - at Bates and Bowdoin, among other venues. I have heard her twice. Of course, she brings tears to my eyes every time! She looks younger than her age because she’s petite, so to hear her voice her feelings so eloquently is a surprise to the audience.

She spoke at our local university today, then I went with her to her jazz piano teacher’s house, where she recorded an audition tape. The college she will be attending offers a music grant to NON-music majors. In addition to a small scholarship, she would receive free piano lessons and have the chance to play in combos. She has played since kindergarten, and I love hearing her improvise and play so joyfully.

@Wien2NC : I met two young men today who told me that on a flight they found themselves sitting on either side of an older woman who told then she had been on Wheel of Fortune, and she had the DVD of the show in her purse. One of the young men pulled out his laptop, they popped the DVD and watched the show with her. They said it was amazing to have met her, and had that moment.

I immediately thought of you and your post here.

Anyone remember the CC poster Coureur? He was an undefeated 5 time Jeopardy champ! Nice to see that there’s another Jeopardy winner here.

Went to the coin star machine today with change that has been laying around the house. Got a gift card for Amazon for $127! I’m really trying to de clutter.

I will try not to spend it all on shoes. Or workout clothes!

it’s Friday, and I didn’t quit my job all week

My S is spending Patriots Day volunteering for the Marathon.

I solved a problem at work that I had me pulling my hair out for 2 weeks.

Had an gastroscopy and colonoscopy today. I have problems but none will kill me and require no further surgery the doc said.

Took 2 weeks time to see doc (specialist ) and one week for procedure, could have been sooner but I had other commitments, and cost me no out of pocket money if anyone is interested. It was at a clinic with an anesthesiologist and there are 15 docs working there (I counted 15 business cards on the counter). I didn’t need to check if the clinic, the surgeon, the anesthesiologist was in network. Every time I read about waiting lists for medical services in Canada I wonder about it.

My white cat lost more weight!!! Those autofeeders were so worth their price!

My Maine Coon kitten is the size of a small dog and still growing! And she’s a female. Imagine if I had bought a male one.

I am DONE with taxes. B-)
