Surprisingly, I’ve been able to cope by studying for my chem final and making art. Painting my feelings, eating my feelings… you know, the works.
I’m nervous but have been expecting a deferral from the get-go, so I’m hoping it won’t be too devastating.

That being said, I’ve already reserved my Wednesday afternoon to making googly-eyed pipe cleaner critters with my boyfriend until it’s time to check my decision and probably eat a pint of ice cream.

@flaque I’ve also basically cleared my schedule and planned for an afternoon of anticipation. I just know I’m going to cry no matter what decision I get

Yes, apparently Questbridge people find out early. I saw the same thing in Penn’s thread. So unfair though, as I continue to wait in agony…

i’ve been dealing with the anticipation by watching SO MANY WES ANDERSON MOVIES

Have you guys finished apps for your rd schools yet? I have 6 essays left to write but no motivation until I hear back from brown, which is probably really stupid because I’m expecting to get deferred. All I can do is sleep, eat, panic, repeat. This waiting is killing me!!

Shoutout to samwise3 who appreciates Wes Anderson.

Also, UPenn’s ED class is in! [The Daily Pennsylvanian :: Early decision admission rates drop by less than 1 percent](Early decision admission rates drop by less than 1 percent | The Daily Pennsylvanian)
Somewhat relevant to us but also simply something else to freak out over.

does anyone know why Brown defers such a greater percentage of applicants than other comparable schools (e.g., upenn)?

i feel like it would be kinder to reject the applicants they know that they won’t be accepting come RD…

Maybe because the total incoming class is so small, they make more cuts and deferrals.
Also, to any PLMErs- PLME apps are down 10% this year.

And does anyone know the effects of coming from an academically unacceptable (an actual state rating) school on admissions? Does this deflate the value of your grades? Or does this mean you had to overcome more?

@tawarren95: Yes, PLME ED apps down 10% this cycle. But keep in mind, it is down from a very high denominator reference point. [Early applications increase for class of 2016 - The Brown Daily Herald - Serving the community daily since 1891](http://www.browndailyherald.com/early-applications-increase-for-class-of-2016-1.2666812#.UMX1NIPok40)

Wish there is a PLME specific thread every year. It is very difficult to find PLME information, and the vast majority in standard threads probably don’t care. Any applicant volunteers from the current pool? or even Regular Decision PLME hopefuls?

I’m simply ED PLME with consideration for Brown even if I don’t get into PLME.

I have a friend in PLME right now; he did JAX with me. White male. His reading SAT was in the 650 range but I think he did well in the other sections. But I don’t think his composite was super high (maybe a 2150ish?), so don’t worry about the SAT statistics that are on the PLME website. I read his essays, however, and they were wonderful. Not creative, just very well done and unique to his circumstances. 10/10. And I agree, if a useful PLME thread gets started, it’ll take years before it has actually substantial information.

@tawarren95: Thx for PLME details you added. Initially, I hesitated to respond to your other question as I am not an expert. On 2nd thoughts, you may get something out of my response…
I am not familiar with “unacceptable rating”(Texas, may be) per-se. The official School Profile and Report/LoR submitted by your GC will offer the requisite context to Brown admissions. It is likely that transcript grades are viewed neutrally, but high SAT/SAT-ii/AP scores should get a big boost for overcoming norms. Need blind admissions policy guarantees that school profile is not misused.

For reference, every year, our county level school system (in NC) sends out letters to all parents with kids enrolled in schools not meeting standards (No Child Left Behind vestiges, IIRC). Our child’s inner-city public magnet school is one such, and it documents a formal “school improvement plan” every year. Despite this ignominious badge, kids do fine in in-state admissions to the top-tier (UNC-CH, Duke, WakeForest, Davidson, etc) and all STEM schools in general, but fare quite poorly when it comes to Ivies (but then again, most of these ivy-chasers tend to be Asians). Will be interesting to see how things go this cycle.

You come across as a mature teen. Do not worry too much about things you can’t do much about. Wish you all the best (55 hours and counting down) !

Are ED PLME apps down because many now realize there is a likely deferral without checking the ED Brown-only commitment too?

Very interesting PLME21; I’ll also be sure to message you back soon.

Jandj, I wonder if checking that option really works against you that much. Would Brown really be that offended by it if it’s still an option? Offended enough to defer most who check this and drive down the application rate?

so far I did not receive any e mail for Brown ? How is everyone ?

@jandjfishing: IMHO, economics driven pull back is the logical reason for this years decline (quasi-educated guess on my part)

1) As previously mentioned in post #230, current year decline needs to viewed in the context of increasing upward trend the previous few years which is attributable to the declining economy in which healthcare field was considered by many as a “safe-haven”.

2) The “very real” reimbursement cuts for most specialty fields and uncertainties around health-care reform is causing current doctors/nurses/etc advising their kids to consider other professions also. My guess is that this well informed group provides the most number of applicants every year, and when they hesitate, it becomes noticeable.

3) There are other shades here, so I will pick the extreme case to make my point. For full-pay candidates, either family commits to nearly $600K or student must be ready for mega-size loans. Tough ask in tough economic times with earning power uncertainties.

My 3 cents!

This is me being paranoid, I know, I understand. But my account was down yesterday, when I tried to log on it took me to the school’s main webpage and today it’s back and I’m wondering if it changed at all. Does everyone have the tab for financial aid now, because I did not have it before?

@scgrrl: I’ve had a financial aid tab for as long as I’ve had my account; it’s still there, if that’s worth anything…

@icwest: Nooooo don’t just reject people!!! DEFER THEM! So that they have hope! And the morale to keep fighting instead of dealing with the gloom of rejection. Or accept them, of course.

Who’s ready to get deferred?? meeeee

I guess deferrals are better than rejections, but dude, the stress and suspense that deferrals come with…
