How prevalent and influential is Brown’s reputation as full of potheads and hippies? I personally know that this is not true for the school as a whole, but it is hard to ignore the general reputation it has among older folk and many people. This couldn’t affect job opportunity in any way, I know. But how prevalent is it, and how much truth is there to it?

I would say there’s at least some truth in it, but only because of how relaxed the school is. If you went to another school and you got caught smoking weed, you could get in a lot of trouble. At Brown, they just don’t really care… at all. Where you live is also a factor, though (Keeney anyone??). What I usually tell prospective students when they ask this question is that you’ll never be forced by anyone to smoke, but you should keep an open mind about people before you judge them. Everyone did get into Brown after all…

Not very prevalent. There are definitely students who smoke weed, but I wouldn’t call us a college of “potheads.” “Hippies” maybe in that we’re very involved in social/political action and care about the world.

what about…in terms of job opportunities/interviews…the average hirer doesnt see Brown in a negative light like that, right…maybe theyll think what alot of people tend to think

judging by the number of huge companies flocking to the job fairs offering starting jobs with salaries above 50,000, I would say: no, they don’t think what most people think.
