The Calculus BC Thread (No AB'ers)

If you did any of the AP exams from more than 15 years ago, then it is natural that nothing on recent exams will surprise you. We have the Calculus teaching reform movement of a decade ago to thank for that.

That said, I had the exact opposite experience of the original poster. I am so glad I stayed up until 4AM this morning cramming. Memorized a lot of useful information. Although I stopped short of reading that part of the textbook about convergence of taylor series and the remainder form of taylor polynomials. Darn.

lol, there were 2 problems on first MC that stole my time. I finished second part with 15 mintues left.

What killed me was b and c of the polar. When I've seen them on tests before they haven't been the sole part of a question. I still don't know how to do c. (I wrote an equation for b but then I couldn't solve it.

the last part of the diffe question was up in the air for me.
and the last part of the taylor went only half okay, lol.

I was super hoping for not a polar, and I was sad when I saw it. But overall, I think I did okay.

MMM yes...

The Calculus BC Free Response Massacre of 2005

i would say im pretty fast in calculus and i barely had enough time to finish, im expecting a pretty big curve on this exam

I didn't find the free response bad, except for two parts

One was the polar one asking for the value of thetha, think it was part b

The other was the last free response questino on taylor, the last part, asking for convergence--> was it a trick question?

I didn't like the last question on the calculator part... That chart... ugh.

I think I know which one you're talking about. Idk, it wasn't all that bad. Just think about it logically... But don't forget to factor in rate of change to see if it's increasing.

It was sort of easy, except one part.

Looking back on 2004's Free Response...

http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/repository/ap04_frq_calculus_bc_36108.pdf

I probably would've done slightly better.

Eh...I basically took the BC for fun, just to see if I could get any extra college credit out of it (which I may or may not have done well enough to get). I probably got a 4 or 5 on the AB subscore, and that's all that I care about. We don't actually have a BC class at my school, just a couple of extra class periods for the five of us that decided to take it, so I wasn't too disappointed that I had a tough time with the BC FR. I just made sure to do all the AB ones first.

Heh...

We have 6 at our school, and we Independent-studied 1.5 chapters completely on our own...

sarah, I'm in the same boat as you -took calc 1 last year and signed up for test (didn't have to pay!) BC just for the heck of it. I looked though some stuff this year but really didn't prep -- I never really learned Taylor series and didn't touch differential equns. So that being said I think I got a 2, but I hope that the AB subscore will be higher

no parametric and no separation of variables... kinda gay

so, what are your guesses about the curve?

how many points do you think would be needed to get a handsome 5?

bty, 2003 bc one was 65 or above for a 5

After the mc was done I was like "Yay! I am on the path for a 5"
After the whole test was done I was like "Wow... That is like a 3 now"

same here, hopkinslax

i was like wow...the calculator mc was really easy, maybe the part II's will be too...wrong.

yeah it was hard..but not THAT hard

im really happy cuz some of the stuff i just learned a couple of days ago proved to be really useful today

i totally had a brain freeze and the clock just seemed to tick faster and faster! this is the 1st time i've actually run out of time doing anything in calc...hopefully the BS i put down for FR gave me some partial credit. i'm confident that i got at least 18 points lol...so sad!

I know that feeling, on one question I was stuck, had a brain freeze, and I could feel the time ticking past.

It was because I could not remember whether the negative sign next to a value for limits means approaching from the left or right, lol...

hey to make everyone feel better, remember that the multiple choice raw scores gets multiplied by 1.2!!! i know it's not much but hey! if u get a 20, it really is a 24!!

Besides the polar and taylor stuff, i actually thought the rod was kinda hard. In fact, i didnt know how to do the first question! How do you find T(7)?! I think i thought too much about that question cause i asked someone else and they just said you average some slopes and you get it.. oh well.
