Question: Find the radius of convergence of Sum((x-3)^2n/n)?
How do you find it? Use the ratio test, and I get (x-3)^2 < 1, which doesn’t have a radius of 1… What did I do wrong?

It’s on the released practice multiple choice test-question 17.

It was amusing to read the early parts of this thread, from 2005. My son’s friends had the same reactions this year (2009)…gaaack! Taylor series–pretty ugly.

He didn’t think the test was THAT bad, though he said he barely finished. Said it seemed easier than the practice tests.

Yeah, it wasn’t TERRIBLE–I only skipped 2 MC, and I definitely got some stuff right. I thought the calculator FRQs were very, VERY easy, but the noncalculator did get difficult…I think I managed to feel my way through that last hideous problem, though.

Bleh. I skipped 2 MC as well, as well as the last NC FRQ.

What do y’all think the curve’s gonna be?

That was pretty brutal. That last FRQ was absolutely hideous. And I was running out of time for most of the sections.

thought all the non-calculator stuff was pretty easy, but calculator I seem to struggle with during a timed test

The test wasn’t that bad, though the 2nd FRQ was weird. I had like, almost no work on it. I was kinda scared . xD

Yeah that last FRQ on the non calc part killed me. So brutal.

The derivatives became so long it wouldve taken forever to find up to the fourth.
I never thought I would give up on an AP but that question did it for me.

You didn’t need any derivatives at all…well, you kinda did, but if you didn’t expand anything, it was pretty obvious what the series became.

I took the BC and did not have a polar free response… weird… but the series one I had was a total *****

I though MC was nothing bad. I’ve done worse, I think I got 75% or 80% of them right, left 3 blank total. The calculator MC was slightly easier than non calc.

First 3 frq’s were painfully easy, finished with 10 minutes to spare. 4 and 5 were a little tougher, but definitely doable completely, and then there was 6…we didn’t do much on taylor series in our class, so we were screwed. We never learned to know common ones like for e, or ln. Only answered 6A, and explained what I would have done in 6C if I got 6B. Then in 6d, wrote the test grader a note. :)

It was horrible. I knew how to do the parametric stuff and messed up on the diver question. Then for the last FRQ, I just bombed the entire thing. Oh well, I just need a good AB subscore, really.

erm… this thread is from 2005

Xav are you thinking about question 6 on the BC exam? You had to find taylors of some function with e.

I thought the whole thing was pretty simple overall. I didn’t omit any questions and double checked most of the questions. The FRQs were simple and straight forward although there were some tricky parts to it.

I thought the multiple choice wasn’t to bad. I left almost all of #3 (the diver problem) blank because I had no clue. On #6 (series), what was the radius of convergence and how many points of reflection were there?

Also, I wrote down all of the multiple choice answers in my calculator. If you also have them and want to compare send me a message.
