DD got in UMich and recieved an invitation for the Campus Day. They ask to register and pay for it!

What's so special about that program? Is it really worth the hassle and the money? What would students see/hear there which they won't see/hear on the usual campus visit?

(We might be planning to visit UMich in winter; should we come for the Campus Day specifically? Or would any working day be as good as another for a visit? What will happen if we happen to come there during the Campus Day, but without registration?)

It's really nothing special: student panel, guided tour, and then a really long LS&A (or whichever school she got into) presentation. You could probably get just as much info. from this forum on the academics and student life. Visiting the campus is invaluable, though. Going to campus day isn't.

The fee is pretty nominal as I recall, and it included lunch at the residence hall that we toured. But for the fact that we went on the coldest day of the year, it was a good program, gave a good general introduction to the school and campus life. I think you could get the same thing on your own, but probably not as easily.

Just go on one of the 5 billion tours they offer everyday. I love it when they walk through the back of the big lectures and I get to look like I'm working all hard and crap.

Do they offer any "school-specific" tours on the usual tours? Or just the general "all-campus" tour? Are there tours for different schools, for Residential College?

If you've decided you're definitely going to Michigan, then you don't need to go to Campus Days. If you're still thinking about your options, then it might help you to make up your mind.
