Hey so I really like BU

But can someone tell me more about the campus? Like how is it? I’ve heard it’s pretty small and stuff.

Is it pretty? Haha I know that’s subjective, but what do you guys think??

It’s eclectic. My husband claims there is no campus. That it has no campus feel.

I differ. It’s a chunk of a city. A very cool city. But one of the city’s main drags and the transit train line runs right down the middle of “campus”. There’s not a lot of green space. Lots of the dorms are high rises. Some are really high rises … like 16 floors. And then, some of the dorms are converted brownstones … three or four stories, two rooms to a floor with woodwork and elegance. Some of the dorms are converted hotels. Hotels as in air-conditioned and private bathrooms.

So – it’s not BC which has a pretty, cute, and self contained campus in Boston. BU has more of a campus than NYU, but not a campus like Harvard with quads and green space.

You should visit to get a real sense of the place.

cnp55 had a very accurate description in my opinion. to be more specific, the chunk cnp55 refers to is basically a ~1.5 mile stretch of commonwealth ave. its really fun and the subway line going through the street adds convenience and access to the city. i personally think it adds to that city vibe if that’s what you’re looking for. while the outside of the buildings may not look breath taking from the outside, the insides are nice. its true we dont really have a “closed off” campus feel but most of the people walking on comm. ave are generally students anyway so you’ll see tons of people you know

Campus? What campus?

I’m with cnp55’s husband; BU is definitely not your typical college campus. It has a very urban setting, right on a main street in the heart of the city, which many people like and find exciting. But students who are looking for the more traditional college quad with green space will be disappointed, so be forewarned.

I disagree. Sure it definitely has a city vibe but all the people on the streets are obviously students and there’s quite a few chillout spots that function as a quad of sorts.
Like West Campus has three buildings (dorms- Rich, Sleeper, and Claflin) that are in front of, to the left, and to the right of the Soccer/Track Field. And then inbetween the dorms and the field is this courtyard where everyone is just chilling out all the time (grass, trees, ect.) Definitely a campus vibe, for me at least.

There are areas of BU that definitely have more of a traditional campus feel, and while it is true that BU doesn’t have a lot of green space, what they do have looks really nice. If you’re concerned that it is too small, try walking from the east part of campus to the west part of campus. It is a pretty long walk. The buildings are all nice on the inside. They just completed some work on the student union over the summer. The CAS building can feel a little…stuffy I guess, especially when it is hot, but it’s still nice.
BU isn’t for everyone, but it does have a campus. I would definitely recommend visiting so you don’t end up being disappointed.
