"do u mind sharing ur extracurriculers?"

They're pretty average. Just search up my previous threads and you'll find my stats.

From Victoria, BC (beautiful but boring)

IB Diploma candidate, average 87%, predicted grade 38 (though I expect 40 or 41 because my school's teachers hardly ever predict 7s for HL courses)

2250 SAT score, 800/800/790 in Math 2/French/Physics

Applied to:
[s]Stanford[/s] rejected at Early Decision
Cornell
MIT
UCB
Northwestern
Columbia
UoT
Waterloo

noob, what r your ECs?

He must not have any seeing as he was rejected at Stanford with such great scores. But then again, I was rejected at Columbia ED...

well it also depends on if u need financial aid. you can still get rejected with great stuff if u need financial aid

ECs:

Math contests, #1 in 2004, Bronze medal at Hypatia last year, and a host of other school-level awards -_-
Won $4000 entrance scholarship at my school
Worked at summer job last year
Editor for school paper
School swimming and track teams, though can't compete due to legal loophole

Overall not very much, except probably the math contest one.

hmm you sound very similar to a friend who applied to standford ED and got accepted. ur rejection may be caused by your location as many schools have a certain quota for certain regions. perhaps there were a lot of outstanding applicants from ur region this year. Im sure you'll do great next year whereever u go

anyone got likely letters btw

"do u mind sharing ur extracurriculers?"

Junior Statesmen (a youth politics club) Chapter president
Published author of a teen's non-fiction about canadian politics
Conservative party of canada campaign youth worker
Civil issues writing for local newspaper
Student gov't
Mentor for kids with psychological disabilities
Swimming
some random volunteer/work experience

That's all the ECs I've done so far.

whats the name of your book? how did u get it published?

chinese canadian here, from vancouver...

avg. 90-smt ish, SAT 2210, but will retake, havent taken SAT II's yet...average ec's, volunteer, part-time job, clubs, golf, CHENCHEN, pls chance me for columbia ed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dead_crocodile,

I don't think it's really worth it for you to take SAT I again. I know a girl here in vancouver who got rejected from Columbia ED this year, even though she has even higher SAT scores. If ECs are your main weakness, then DO SPEND TIME AND EFFORT on that area, since Columbia, like every other top 25 school, considers one's extra-curricular achievemnts, personal qualities, and essays with considerable weight.

As for your current chances at columbia ed, you'll most likely be deferred UNLESS you put some more stellar ECs on your portfolio.

No one can really predict your chances. You seem like a fairly strong applicant to me and your SAT is in the ballpark. All I can say is that improving your ec's will enhance your app more than a higher SAT score will. Good luck.

can u guys chance my friend? he s a Korean international student in Quebec, he is applying ED to U Penn's Fisher programm(business and engineering dual degree)

avg. low 90s;
SAT 2310
SAT II: Math 2 800 Physics 800 French 760
ECs: city-wide badminton tournament champion and represents Montreal for the provincial final; started a volunteering program with me(co founder); piano, plays in a orchestra; does researches with Mcgill professors, some other volunteers, etc.

JIMMY@KILLARNEY, why do you think the girl was rejected?

Thx for ur opinions guys, is it possible to be accepted without having won some major awards? (I haven't)

I rushed about 3 sections on the SAT cuz there was this 20-minute-line in the bathroom and I had to go back to finish sections whiling watching out for the lady supervising.. M 760 CR 740 W 710 (essay 9) does the essay look really bad?

and how do i improve my ec's? i don't think joining more clubs is going to help, and i dont think im gonna be able to win any major awards this year. i've already started volunteering, taken on a job, and joined school's golf team to improve my ec's. but since i never really learned to play the piano and i was never good at sports, i think i can hardly become a virtuoso overnight. any suggestions? thx alot!

likely to cornell =D. but still want brown =(
