I know ppl probably have been over this before, but U of T or McGill for a biology-related major?

I would go to Queens and put 100% of that money in a trust fund. KCL is the better school, but not worth the massive opportunity cost of attending. On top of that overseas tuition and ridiculous cost of living in London for 3 years... geez.

this probably isn't the best place to post this, but i don't know where else to go.

i've looked around the UBC website and i like their programs and it seems like a good schook, but I'm a little confused about the location. Is it actually in Vancouver or are most of the undergrads not actually in the city?

to the best of my knowledge, ubc is in vancouver

and in a VERY wealthy/established area of vancouver with surrounded by a small forest and of course the Pacific Ocean. UBC even has its own beaches. Overall, the natural environment is absolutely gorgeous.

UBC is located on a peninsula, about 25-30 minutes away from the city center. It is in a heavily wooded area and surrounded by ocean on 3 sides. Even though it is located very very close to a major city, it is most definitely a campus school, not a city school.

Bottom line: It's a very nice place to live and go to school.

EDIT: Before someone nitpicks this, I'm not sure whether or not it is within the official city limits of Vancouver. Regardless, the school is not located downtown, but is instead relatively secluded. Downtown is still not that far away.

thanks, that helps a lot!

the down part of Mcgill, I would say that it is a downtown college, lack of the aura

notice all the mass murders in Quebec are done by "disencfranchised" non-"pure laine francophone"(quote from Jan Wong, columnist for Globe and Mail)/
BoisClar made derogatory remarks about "slanted eyes" competetion for Quebec jobs and got away without apologizing.
If the OP is an "ethnic" whom PQ leader was quoted as saying that helped to defeat the Separatist's cause, then he/she should be aware of such discrimination in Quebec.

Jan Wong's thesis was completely wrong (of the 4 crazed shooters cases since 1984, only one, Corporal Denis Lortie, could be described as disenfranchised, but, oops, he's a "pure-laine francophone"). Boisclair's comment was not derogatory because the expression he used does not have racist connotations in French (you should read Foglia instead of Wong...). In fact, Boisclair's comments were quite praiseful of asians, though he should have stated them differently, without using stereotypes.

And the OP applied to schools in the US (plus two Ontarian universities)...

ok, i'm new here so...

The OP is an "ethnic" and a "slanted eye"according to PQ terminology.Note her posts regarding decision to go to McGill and Queens.I value Jan Wong,an "ethnic" who left Quebec, one of the 401ers,including many ethnics who left Quebec because of French "oppression".
Look at this:
Money and the ethnic vote
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the concession speech given by Parti Quebecois Premier Jacques Parizeau after narrowly losing 50.58% to 49.42% in the 1995 Quebec referendum on sovereignty, he blamed the defeat on "money and the ethnic vote" (l'argent puis des votes ethniques) and called on Quebec sovereignists to adopt a strategy of gearing their efforts only towards French-speaking Quebecers in future referendum campaigns. Parizeau would resign as premier the next day. The former premier never apologized for his statement, which caused some to accuse the separatist movement of being racist.[1]

and then Boisclar. and the slanted eyes Asians from Inidia and China.

It seems that our Jewish friends also agrees.

But he was less certain it would reverse the “steady outflow” of Jews that has occurred since the PQ first came to power in 1976. “A lot of people made a judgment that they didn’t want their lives held captive to the whims of the PQ and the voters of Quebec. That concern has been lifted, for the moment, but it’s only one election. There are other elections down the road, and who knows what’s going to happen.”
that was then.Now is Now.

so decisions are coming out. anyone get in somewhere?

Cornell decisions should be available half an hour ago, but the server seems to have crashed with everyone being online lol. I'm also waiting for UCB and Columbia tonight.

As for Canadian schools, I've applied for Waterloo and UoT but haven't yet heard from wither.

anyone got into harvard or yale or princeton?

This is officially my worst day ever. UCB, Columbia and Cornell have all said no to me. That leaves me with UoT and Waterloo as the only choices left. And Northwestern.

northwestern is good

Petaling, I see you must have never set foot in Quebec for repeating the same stereotypes about Quebecers that are so common in English media. I won't derail this thread, but I suggest you read the link below, it might help you see the difference between the expressions "yeux brides" and "slanted eyes":

Now, if you don't know it already, the PQ on Monday had the lowest percentage of votes they've ever had in an election since 1976. Even the ADQ got more votes and more seats at the National Asssembly. There won't be a referendum any time soon...

As a Canadian applicant, got into Caltech, Princeton, UC Berkely, Carnegie Mellon. Waiting on Stanford.

hey jane where did u get in?
