The Canadian Thread

My younger brother will be applying to some American universities next year, and I had a question regarding GPA. What years do they look at? Is it everything from Grade 9 to Grade 12, or is there more focus on the last year or two like with Canadian schools?

everything with a focus on the last two years. hey does anyone plan on going visiting in April? in particular Penn?

waitlisted at Harvard, suggestions that can get me in?

For Greater Vancouver:
Harvard: U-Hill (1)
PW (2)
Churchill (1)
BNS (1)
Yale: Churchill (1)
Crofton (1)
Princeton: PG (1)
Columbia: PW (1)
Churchill (2)
West Van. (1)
Cornell: Churchill (4)
BNS (4)
Stanford: St. George (1)
Port Moody (1)
You are welcome to add to the list. How come all the bright kids leave Beautiful BC and head to the states?!

Because top private American universities are better than Canadian universities.

My school has:

2 Harvard
2 Yale
2 Princeton
4-5 Columbia
3-4 Penn
1 Caltech
2 Oxford

These are all admits, not necessarily people who will enroll (although probably it'll end up looking that list, with maybe a couple less attending Columbia and Penn due to getting in elsewhere, and I am one of the Princeton admits who may or may not attend Caltech).

edit And this is a bad year for our school it's looking like. In 2002 we had some 25ish kids attend Ivy league schools, and then 2-3 attending MIT or Stanford.

My school: kill, has:
1 Middlebury (ED)
1 Cornell (ED)
1 Johns Hopkins (ED, me!:))

This is actually quite a record for us, since we are just an average public school in east vancouver, with more than 2100 kids.

Also, for our neighboring school david thompson:
1 Cornell, Upenn, Columbia

1of42, do you go to UCC?

i think crofton has a few columbia. one princeton. two upenn. one yale. one cornell...etc.

1of42: wow your school is crazy. in what city do you go to?

Our school:
Harvard - 1
Yale - 1 waitlisted
Princeton - 1
Cornell - 2 (& 1 waitlisted)
Dartmouth - 1
NYU - 1
USC - 1
and I think there are a few more that I am unaware of.

I am the one who got into Princeton, Cornell, and waitlisted at Yale. I am going to be attending Prineton. But I didn't count as Canadian in the admission process, because I am a South Korean citizen studying as an international student in Canada.

Dionysus: Good guess ;)

For the record, my comment about 2002 was actually very inaccurate, as that was the double cohort year. However, in previous years we have had more luck - I guess the tougher admission this year is killing everyone.

edit My previous list isn't fully accurate. I spoke to the gc today and she suggested there were more admits I didn't know about, but of course she can't say who got in where. Waitlists are also not included on that list.

Burnaby North (currently attending)

1 Harvard ED
1 Dartmouth
1 Cornell ED
2 Cornell likelies

5/6 on ivies so far. not baddddddddd

Crofton House

1 Yale
1 Cornell
1 Columbia
1 Princeton
2 Upenn (1 wharton)

any canadian going/considering/currently attending penn or dartmouth?

Haha there is a Canadian Thread....

I am from T.O too

Now studyin' in Umich

One more Torontonian. Wow, I wrote one of my SAT at UCC, i must admit i love the school campus. Congrats, 1of42. Are you guys competing with UTS again? I wonder about their number of ivies admits this year.

Judy, nice to see u here again. You are quite active at CC.

UTS has two people going to harvard, about 20 people accepted into ivies in general.

I loved UCC too when I took my SATs...

Ironically, I actually took my SATs at Emery (is that how it's spelled?) somewhat out of the city. Makes me feel like I wasted time, going that far. :P Yeah, our campus is nice - I'm definitely going to miss the school at least a bit next year.

As for Ivy admits, it turns out I missed a few people - one Cornell admit, another Princeton, another Yale, at least.

Another Canadian checking in from Vancouver! I'll be going to Princeton next year, seems like there are quite a few of us here.

which school do you come from?
tzhu?
