The Cheapest Investment?

wait, tizil, so the recession and the rough job market in the US is the only reason you think returning is better for job prospects, right? Because if you suppose, just suppose that it was equally easy to find employment in either country, then wouldn’t it make more sense to stay back after UG? considering the significantly higher earning potential and payscales…

I dont think anyone can know how life will turn out after 4 years. I have had friends return back immediately and they are doing extremely well (some started their own ventures, some just joined other companies). And some returned after few years. Some stayed back permanently…just depends on opportunities…Heck, I know someone who came here, went back to India, came back to the US on a company transfer, now juggling their time back/forth (due to kids being here).

It just depends what opportunities come your way. And yes, US student visa is given on the premise that you are coming here for a temporary stay. So make sure to defend your case at the visa interview :)

Do you think taking $30,000 loan per annum for education in Mount Holyoke College is wise? I didn’t get full aid, only 50%, hence, would have to pay the remaining 30,000 from my own pockets.

Considering the current job market conditions in the US and the name of my college, should I go for it? Even if I decide to come back to India, would companies hire me for a lucrative salary seeing my college’s label? I am sure, it would be unknown to them.

Please advice. Thanks

veethiv - what are your options in India? What major were you admitted? How is your family’s finances? What other colleges were you admitted in the US? Unless your family can afford it, 30K/year =$120K for 4 years is a LOT of money in loans. And yes, maybe worth it for HYPMS but not for Mount Hoyoke. Just my opinion.

Right now, I am taking the CLAT, the law entrances, however, I don’t want to do law at this stage, maybe for my JD I would, and also the fact that law schools in India aren’t that great, except the ones in Bangalore and Hyderabad, which are very tough to get in, considering the reservations. My sister would be sponsoring my education, she’s currently working in McKinsey, New York.

I would be majoring in Economics, or a double major in Economics and Pol Sc. since I would want to graduate in law after my undergraduate studies.

I didn’t really apply to HYPMS, other than Dartmouth, where I got rejected. Therefore, my other acceptances are State Schools, and I don’t think I’m too keen on spending 40k there…

So, should I go for it? or take the CLAT super seriously? (despite me not wanting it)
