I didn't want to ruin the whining thread, but I thought those of us who got a good finaid package needed a place to CHEER!!!

Plus, this should help underclass parents choose where to have their kids to apply!!

Got my first package from Union College today!!! EXTREMELY generous!! They gave me MORE than my EFC with only Stafford loans, the rest was grants!!!!

So, feel free to CHEER here!

(and remember, whiners please head to the whining thread)

Rocket…Good for you! You are just the kind of student who will know how to maximize your opportunities. I think Union made an excellent choice of investments.

Uh, this thread sounds a lot like a “cheer about how much money I make” thread…I expect it will turn nasty quickly and then get closed by the moderators.

But since we’re cheering, I will cheer about my 100% financial aid (aka company funded) package to University of Washington for my first masters degree, and then hopefully to another school (not yet decided) for a second degree, totalling $100,000!

I got a great package from Geneseo but I am instate.
My package from Gettyburg was not bad as well.
URI was high so its off my list!
I cant wait until this is over…

I mean for this to be a resource for next year’s class. Who got good packages from where. You don’t need to give specific details, just a College name and that the finaid was good…that’s all…

I really don’t mean this to be a show offy place. I really want it to be helpful :D

The problem is that because of different family circumstances, aid can be quite variable at colleges. So the fact that YOU got a great package from a particular school doesn’t mean that someone else would.

However – I do think its a good idea, in theory, to share info.

How about some specifics about issues like loans & work study? Schools are all over the map on how much of a work-study burden they put on students, and I think that there are some that are essentially playing a bait-and-switch game with the numbers. (The “switch” part is when the student gets to campus and finds out that there are only a limited number of positions available, and there is no way to get the hours required to earn more than a small fraction of the overall grant).

First of, big congratulation for the FA package. 2ndly, thank you very much for willing to share.

However, I am with calmom. because your definition of "EXTREMELY generous!! " may be different than others. Is this need base or merit base?

If you willing, no pressure from me because I would not do it (so many people know who I am). Give the ball park of COA, your EFC and grant amount. For example: COA is $55,000 and grant aid is $50000. etc. will be much more helpful to the next year applicants.

Right now, we’re cheering about Carleton at my house. Came pretty close to the EFC with grants. Overall, very reasonable - I think they took the time to really understand our family’s situation.

In my opinion, the package applicannot got (#15) is truely “extremely generous”. If R6L got 5K Stafford (post #13), that means it contains about 2K unsubsidized loan. Many might not consider that being generous at all. Of course, within the limited data set one has, one might think it otherwise.

In fact, I personally don’t think any FA package that contains a loan is generous.

Dad II-do you always have to rain on people’s parades? I consider it generous as it makes it so I can attend. Plus, it doesn’t have a gap(more like an anti-gap) or non-Stafford loans

this isn’t your place to judge other people’s packages…

And yes, skier, they covered 2k more than my “need”

My son has been offered a full-tuition scholarship (merit) to Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. We’ve been very impressed with the school when we visited, but it’s not his first choice. We’re driving down this weekend to hear more about their honors program and attend Accepted Students Day. I’m hoping he falls in love with it!
