The CHEER about the Financial Aid Package Thread!

And we relo’d from NJ to TN. No state income tax, significantly lower property taxes, no toll roads, housing costs at least 1/2 of what we were used to (I asked our RE agent if the entire area was in a flood plain or something  Better schools. Husband’s income was not impacted.

Just talked to a dear friend of mine from our old school district whose youngest is also graduating this year. She could not believe how “inexpensive” it was to go to state schools here in TN and in surrounding states, even as an OOS student. It’s going to cost her D way more to go to a 3rd tier NJ college that to go to our state flagship.

And I forgot to mention the TN lottery scholarships for kids who attend in state schools. Automatic with a 21 ACT & 3.0 gpa ($4000) and an additional $1500 for higher gpa/test scores on top of already significantly lower COAs.

I knew our state schools would not be a financial safety - Connecticut
Flagship $25k IS $41k OOS - WOW
Non-flagship

I knew our state schools would not be a financial safety - Connecticut
Flagship $25k IS $41k OOS - WOW
Non-flagship $21k IS OOS $32k

I cannot imagine paying that $41k for a state school! Bur apparently a lot of students/parents do.

NewEnglandMother, wow, that’s the OOS price for UCONN!!! Do people really pay that, or do they offer OOS merit aid, which drops that COA? I know quite a few NJ students do marticulate to UCONN.

To all of the southerners who posted, believe me, I am jealous! If could have moved we would have gone south!

NEMom - They have a number of merit scholarships for IS and I only saw 2 for OOS for 1/2 to full tuition. I would guess these are very competitive and I don’t know how many they hand out. UCONN has some really good programs but $41k (actually $42k) is a lot for a State School. I bet students with the stats to get merit at UCONN could get merit at other less expensive schools too. They also have a New ENgland regional plan that is $31.5k. Still… The non-flagships are expensive too. These numbers are for total COA taken from UCONN’s website.

UCONN is that high now for OOS? My goodness, I guess our OOS D did OK then, I recall it was 22k-24k while she was there & UCONN did give her grant money & Stafford loans of course. Guess she went at the right time!

Another amazing package from Smith!

They readjusted my EFC to cover my dad’s loss of income and health costs as well as my mother’s student loan costs.
After reducing my EFC they met it with NO LOANS.
Outside of my Smith grants, I also have a guaranteed work study(through STRIDE) that they did NOT include as part of my aid, so I will be able to pay for books
I am VERY grateful

WOW, such great news R6L!!! :)

Wisconsin 32K

Hornet, I believe this is transposed or an OOS number? I haven’t seen 2010 numbers yet, but 20-23 all-in would be about right in-state 2009.

R6L;

Big congrats! This reinforces my belief that Smith has great financial aid. It is also a wonderful school (as TheDad and a few others would tell you).
