Going on the assumption that I will be rejected from HYP and C on the 1st - I wanted to asses my options and I would appreciate input from anybody, especially current students at any of the schools to help me make a good choice.

First: A bit about myself:

academic interests: Physics, Political Science, Visual Arts
EC interests: sailing, debate

important factors: livability (climate, location) (how grey and depressing does Poughkeepsie get in winter for example?)

I like a lot of quirky stuff, and my taste in music is as off-beat as my sense of humor. I absolutely love sailing and skiing and at USC I would definitely surf as well (how accessible is the ocean?). I'm not the particularly popular type, I don't fit into any of the cliques/crowds at my school, but I have some good friends from each.

money is not an issue, although taking USC for the money is a SENSIBLE choice, however I don't want to be at a place that doesn't fit me.

MY CHOICES:

USC - accepted at CAS w/ undecided major. Applying for thematic option (regular deadline, was a bit lazy...) - Received Trustee scholarship.

Wesleyan (the one in CT)- offering only student Loans.

Vassar - (haven't received aid package yet)

NYU - accepted at the Gallatin school for individualized study (haven't received aid package yet)

please leave comments explaining your answers!

USC is approximately 10-15 miles from the beach. If you plan on surfing, you’ll need a car.
If you consider yourself as quirky, Wesleyan’s/Vassar’s student body might be more of a fit than USC.

Wesleyan is a stone’s throw from the Connecticut River; crew is very big there. And, there is Long Island Sound for sailing (about thirty minutes away) if you stick around during the summer.

I cannot comment on Poughkeepsie, but I CAN tell you that we are having a HUGE storm in California right now. We are very concerned it might get down to 60 degrees Fahrenheit… ;)

Are you sure you don’t want to be a film major. Because you’ve gotten into four schools with great programs…

Anyway, one thing you should ask yourself is what size school do you want? You’ve got two fairly large Unis (USC, NYU), and two small LACs – those are VERY different experiences.

In my mind, NYU should be out unless there is something you’d really like to do at Gallatin that you can’t do elsewhere – if you want a big school, go with USC, because it offers money, nicer weather, and the beaches.

OTOH, if you’d prefer a smaller, quirkier school, Vassar or Wes would be the obvious choices – deciding between the two is a pretty personal choice, since they have similar weather, similar campus cultures, etc (you should search Vassar Vs .Wesleyan; there are lots of threads about it).
