Hey quick question. I am junior in high school and I am just starting to search for colleges. After doing a couple college searches Clemson kept coming up as one of my best fits. I did my research and it seems like a really neat school but I am having trouble finding information about the campus life. What exactly is there to do in Clemson?

I would really appreciate feedback! Thanks!

Sports is probably the biggest thing on campus. Football dominates the fall, basketball (when we’re good, and we look promising in the future) in the winter and baseball (we’re the #4 team in the preaseason rankings) in the spring. People love cheering on our athletic teams. Outside of sports, people are pretty active. People play intramural and club sports, tons of people are at the recreation center. Greek Life is another big thing on campus and there’s a decent amount of people who drink and go to parties (and if you’re of age or have a fake, then downtown as well). Clemson is a small town in the middle of nowhere. Some people hate it, some people love it. Clemson’s also on Lake Hartwell and a short drive from the mountains so if you’re an outdoors person, there’s tons of stuff to do as well.

Awesome! Thank you this is exactly what I was looking for. But is the town really that small? Is there a “college town” (kinda like UNC’s Franklin street)?

Hmm this definitely is a “college town” in the sense that the town only survives because the university exists (aka the university is the town). I don’t think we have anything on the scale of UNC’s Franklin Street though (I have not been to UNC, that’s just what I’ve heard though). Downtown is small and probably only 1-2 blocks big.

Oh and I should add in the above post that outdoor stuff is easily done IF you have a car.

The typical student is from the South, is a college football fan, takes classes seriously during the week but likes to have fun on the weekends. People are motivated, there are many Christians on campus (being in the Bible belt), conservative politically, full of school spirit and friendly. People tend to dress nice, polos, croakies etc… Diversity needs work since there isn’t much on campus right now though (speaking from an asian-american perspective).

Now that’s not the description of everyone but those are characteristics of clemson students that many people share.

Not to interfere in the thread, but as another perspective student, I wanted to say that I would 100% recommend visiting if at all possible – Clemson wasn’t one of my top choices before visiting, but I fell completely in love with it when I did.

No worries any feedback is great. But yeah I would really like to take a visit because I can all ready see myself going there I just need to see the campus and get a feel for it.

If you go to Clemson’s website, in the top right corner there is a link to their webcams. It’s not nearly the same as a visit by any means, but it’s still a way to get a quick live look around the campus. My son is a freshman there and he is very happy.

even better if you go to the iTunes Store and search “Clemson University Tour”, there is a free iPhone/iPod Touch app that gives you an overview of campus

^^ Thanks for posting that. . .I’m having fun watching the webcam right now, even though I have visited campus. So jealous of those walking around in shorts. . .

I have a son who is a senior @ Clemson and he loves it. My daughter just got accepted as well and will be going this fall. There is nothing like the atmosphere at Clemson. During football season, I have heard from many visiting teams’ fans that they love coming here because of the friendliness, fun and good sportsmanship demonstrated at Clemson. The university may be a “small town” but there is PLENTY to do both on campus and off campus. Clemson is very close to Atlanta, Charlotte for concerts, etc and close to the mountains, skiing, white water rafting to the north and great beaches on the coast. Please give serious consideration to a campus visit. You will know immediately if you find a connection. Good luck in your college search and GO TIGERS!

i was worried about the town being too small for me but i visited over the weekend…love the feel of the town, the school pride on campus, and the cat buses run off campus on weekends to take you to seneca and greenville and what not so theres not a giant lack of things to do like i had thought…absolutely suggest you go visit…applied to clemson as a whatever school and now its one of my top choices so yeah. id suggest visiting. lol

Correction: The CAT Buses do not go to Seneca and Anderson and Pendleton on the weekends (only operate in the Clemson/Central area) and CAT buses do not go anywhere near Greenville (that’s an hour away)

Despite being in a small city, there is always a lot to do in Clemson. Atlanta, Charlotte, Grenville, etc. are all within driving distance if you want to attend a ‘big’ non-sport event. I’m living in Columbus now (graduated from Clemson- in grad school) and while there is more to do here, as a student there isn’t much time to experience all the concerts, pro-sporting events, plays, etc. I think the small town nature of Clemson makes the student body a more cohesive group.

hmm…the girl on our tour told us that they run off campus on weekends and go to the cities in the area. my bad about the greenville. dont know the area that great
