the cliched chances thread RD

Hi everyone,
I'm a senior in a high school located in the burbs of chicago. I was hoping some of you could let me know what my chances at duke RD were.
GPA (the main drawback) 3.0 UW
Very rigorous courses (all APs and Honors)
Upward trend in grades from 2.5 fresh and soph to 3.8 Junior year and 4.6 senior (senior year is unofficial)
32 ACT
Good extracirrics (250+ hours volunteering at a VA hospital, research work at a cosmetic company, South Asian Student Association, Scholastic bowl captain, Varsity tennis)
Good Work experiences (T-mobile Cell Phone salesman, Junior Technician at a cosmetics company, and CNA at a doctors office)
I've done some research on how different ethnicities have stronger hair
I had all my teachers and friends tell me my essays were amazing

BUT the main drawback is my grades. 3.0 in a subpar high school. My class rank is 300 out of 612.
Please be open and honest. I honestly don't expect anyone saying "oh you'll get in"
Thank You!

To be frank no one can tell you. I’ll tell you a story I had a classmate my high school year that was around 100+/363 students. His grades were so so…white kid in my Chinese class but wasn’t a leader in the Chinese honor society nor did he do well in the class, low SATs and no ECs literally but still managed to get delayed acceptance to Washington University in ST. Louis for a major in Chinese. WHy did he get accepted when my friends who was number 9 in our class rejected so was number 18 and number 21 was waitlisted…He wasn’t legacy had no hooks wasn’t an URM I know this for a fact cause I’ve known this kid since we were 5 from the same synagogue and he was not an extraordinary individual but still managed to get into one of the best schools in America. I tell you this story because its there to show you nothing is impossible. I’m going through the same thing again as I am applying to graduate school and nothing changes. You worry about if you are good enough and in the end its in the hands of the gods. I suggest you apply to a decent amount of schools (6-7) and just see where the chips lie.

My guess is that you’ll be waitlisted, but you might get accepted. Definitely look at Hopkins as a reach.

Your test scores and ECs are solid. But your GPA is fairly low, and so is your rank, which really hinders your chance. BUT there’s always a possibility, and your upward trend will be appreciated no doubt. Be sure to write fantastic essays!

thanks for the feedback guys!

you have great ECs. your test score is great. blow them away with your essays and try and write them a letter on why your grades are so low. if you can successfully do that then you have a great shot at getting in. like bluejaybj said its up to the gods.
