Tons of make-up is definitely a turn off for most guys, a little bit to touch up, thats fine.

Wow, you're right. Preppy HS kids do wear that Hollister **** and FLAUNT it. In college, where I go, there are a lot of preppy kids. No Hollister, etc. insight or at least none of those big shirt that say HOLLISTER in big font on it.

In my university, we wear prada, coach, and those $200 T-shirts with really really nice designs (for boys). OR you could wear some athletic gear all the time, 24/7. Both is the college style here.

excessive makeup = turn off

I'm boggled at the number of posters who go to schools where 7 jeans and Ralph Lauren and, heck, Prada are the norm. There are some kids who'll wear name-brand polos at my school but if some piece is super-flashy... let's just say people tend to have mildly chilly reactions to that kind of thing.

Most people dress pretty casually. Lots of courduroy and sweaters for men. Ballet flats with jeans, a decent top, and a cute scarf for women. Thrift store shopping's pretty widespread. And hoodies. Hoodies are common.
