The College Of New Jersey (aka TCNJ)

anybody ever hear about TCNJ? It sounds like it's a great school, am considering it except am worried because of the lack of national reputation

TCNJ has seen its reputation improve a great deal in the past few years. I think it is a pretty good state school and a good option if Rutgers is too big for you. However, the student body is most likely all from NJ.

TCNJ is an excellent school. TCNJ is harder to gain admission to than Rutgers from instate. TCNJ is more of an LAC, and Rutgers is more of a research focused university. TCNJ does want OOS students. Be aware that all schools in NJ tend to be suitcase schools because NJ is so small. This means that on weekends a lot of students do leave campus.

Nephew is there and is OSS from PA. He is generally happy with the school and finds it challenging. He is a little disappointed that so many kids leave campus on the weekends and that the athletic scene is pretty weak. Academically, it is very good and the campus is nice.

:) I posted some time ago that this school got a little "confused" and sent nephew a very nice rejection letter for a job in the admissions office while he was a high school senior in PA.

Yeah, it doesn't have much of a reputation out of state, but I've heard that it's a great school, quite comparable to Rutgers. I know a few people who go there, and they're very, very happy.

Okay, so when you tell people you go to TCNJ they may or may not know what it is, but the truth is it is a great school. I'm a double major (in the School of Culture & Society and the School of Arts & Communications) and all of my classes have less than 20 students. The professors are, for the most part, really helpful and truly interested in what they teach. Student life is also great; there are clubs for anyone and everyone's friendly.

I agree with the statement that instate, it's currently better regarded, and harder to be accepted into, than Rutgers.
