After unsuccessfully trying various ways to get financial help or have someone take them over they announced they will close at the end of the semester. My friends daughter is a MT major there and just loves it. Unfortunately for these poor kids the announcement comes too late for auditions and applications elsewhere. Are there any MT programs still auditioning for transfers? I am not knowledgeable about MT at all but thought this might be a good source for information to share with my friend and her daughter. They are really upset as you might imagine.

What horrible news! swimcatsmom, I am so sorry to hear this. It’s always a tragedy when a college has to close its doors.

I am hopeful someone here will be able to tell you some programs that accept transfers.

That is horrible to hear! The only school I know of that still has auditions is Marymount Manhattan College. It is a special transfer walk-in audition day for their BA in Theatre Arts, BFA in Acting, and the MT minor. This is only for transfers. I am not sure if there was a deadline that you have to apply to the school by or not. I would call or check the website. Best of luck!

University of Central Oklahoma - BM–Music Theatre (March 28 audition)
Sam Houston State University - BFA–Music Theatre (with concentration in either acting, voice or dance) April 24 audition.

Cornish College in Seattle: BFA in Acting, Performance Arts (MT), or Original Works. By audition at the school.

Millikin - BFA-MT last audition date is this Friday, March 27

I just looked at the website and I do not see anything about a transfer walk in day. Do you have a specific place I can go to in order to see this information? I am very interested.

I would say that if they have a few specific schools they consider similar to Santa Fe, that would likely be a good program match for them, there would be nothing lost by contacting those schools and seeing if, in light of the extenuating circumstances, any special application/audition arrangements could be made.

I just read an article that states that Gov. Bill Richardson is determined to not let the College of Santa Fe close. He has set up a task force (which includes actress Ali MacGraw) and says, “the school is ‘so valuable to our state that we must do whatever it takes to keep it open.’ He said the liberal arts college was well-known for its dance, film and theater programs and described it as ‘an economic engine’ for the city of Santa Fe.”

A link to the article: [Governor charges new task force with saving College of Santa Fe - SantaFeNewMexican.com](http://www.santafenewmexican.com/Local%20News/-Whatever-it-takes--Governor-charges-new-task-force-with-saving-The-College-of-S)

According to the article, the task force meets again on April 3rd and will have an answer for the Governor by April 30th. So perhaps there is still hope???

The CSF President has said they will definitely close at the end of the semester.

If anything comes of the task force they say on the web site that they would not open before the spring.

Oh my gosh…that is truly terrible!!! My heart goes out to those students…

I believe Plymouth state University in New Hampshire accepts applications through April 1 and still has an on campus audition day. Seton Hill and DeSales in PA may also still be accepting applications.

I hope this does not happen. Good to hear the governor recognizes the significance of a good arts school. I almost convinced my daughter to audition there. I also have a friend from high school in Texas, whose daughter applied there two years ago. I’m sure it’s disruptive to the students to not know what the end result will be.

I am hearing that they are still hopeful that something may happen that will enable something to open in the Spring. In the meantime the University of new Mexico has said they will take the displaced students. And several universities have apparently stepped up and there is a program in place for a “teach-out” program where the seniors can complete their senior year at these schools and will graduate with a Santa Fe degree.

Oklahoma City University has auditions March 27-28. I don’t know if they have any slots open, but she could call and explain her circumstance and maybe they could work her in.

What a sad thing to happen. I have to wonder, though, if they have actually been communicating this for months as the president of the university states. If they have, then I guess I wonder why these kids didn’t make arrangements for auditions earlier, and if they haven’t, then why is he stating that? He shouldn’t be saying that publicly if it isn’t true.

I think they have been aware that there were issues but thought a solution would be found. Or maybe they were burying their heads in the sand.

Another school to look at is Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL. They have a BFA MT program and it is becoming more reputable in the state of Florida (they are even starting to be compared to FSU and Miami). They have an audition tomorrow (I’ll be there, my final audition…thank goodness!) and their final one is on April 17. They take transfer students (which I would be), especially from a lot of the Florida universities which don’t offer MT.

Central Washington u in Ellensburg Washington has a BFA in Mt, really nice atmosphere and the profs we met were wonderful. Fairly new program - beautiful campus. They are having at least one more audition I think. Go to website … not sure when.
