[The Collegian ? University of Richmond Student Newspaper ? News, Sports, Features, Opinion](http://thecollegianur.com/)

Here’s the link to the University of Richmond’s online newspaper. It’s a good way to get a feel for what’s going on at the campus.

Check out the “news” section for Police Reports. Check out the “opinion” section for students OP-Ed’s. Read through the entire thing once a week if you’re interested in UR. Good info about a wide range of things–events, alumni updates, sports, news, etc.

You can do the same for any college you’re interested in. Just google and find the college’s online newspaper.

^PAV, please reread the original post. It was posted on 9/23/10. Yes, I mentioned to check out the “news” section for Police Reports. The reason—because many parents don’t know that weekly Police Reports are available to read. Whether researching U of R or any other college, I feel that parents should know that such information is available.

I also mentioned to check out the “opinion” section. It’s nice to read what students have to say about a variety of topics.

I also suggested to read through the entire “Collegian” because it provides good info on a wide range of things----events, alumni updates, sports, etc.

What is the problem? You’re taking one 6 word sentence of the original post rather than reading the sentence in context and including the total main idea of the post. The main purpose of the original post is to make people aware that they can go online and read online editions of newspapers from colleges.

Regarding my 10/6/10 post–I simply went online to read a new edition of the online Collegian and one of the headlines was the story about the 10 on-campus assaults since the start of the semester. I was shocked and because this was an abnormal spike in on-campus assaults, I passed the info on to others so they could go back to the link in my original post so they could read about it themselves. As the parent of a prospective student or current student, wouldn’t you want to know such things?

Regarding my 10/18/10 post—I simply went online again to read the current edition of the Collegian. Right there, on the front page of the link, was the story about the 11 Cars being vandalized. I was very surprised. So, I made a comment and included the link so others could read the story for themselves. I also made a comment that U of R has decided to expand the Safety Shuttle service to men in response to the increased number of on-campus assaults (if you read the article, the school mentions this as the reason why they now offering the service to male students). I commented that this was a great idea.

Do you honestly think that my original post was to bash the school? It was to inform parents that U of R (as well as most colleges) have an online newspaper and it’s full of info that may be of interest to them-----news, police reports, alumni news, sports, opinions, events, etc. Do you think that on 9/23/10 when I posted the link to the Collegian that I had magical powers and knew that a few weeks later, U of R would be hit with an unusual rash of on-campus assaults and vandalism?

Yes, all colleges have their fair share of scary and criminal things going on at any particular time. It’s not unique by any means to U of R.
The positive stuff is always easily accessible to prospective students and parents. My purpose was to inform parents that they can find a wide range of info (good and bad) about a campus by reading the online editions of various college newspapers.
