The Columbia Experience

Race based diversity is just sugar coating to politicians. It is one of the most meaningless and worthless criteria. Admission should be merit based. Not a disrespect to Columbia, many Columbia professors are some of the outcasts of Harvard (denied tenure), and reverse is not true. In terms of environment, Cambridge is lot nicer than Morningside which is next to Harlem. People in Columbia look up to Harvard like a big brother (reminding me of UCLA looking up to UCB, or maybe even more striking), and people at Harvard looks at Columbia, well, not much a thought. At graduate school level, the distance is even larger. Harvard may have several times more funding than that for Columbia. There is no winning situation for Columbia, in almost every field. If you get in both, Harvard hands down!
