"The Committe Has Acted On Your Application And Have Mailed..."

Since other people have already received such a change in their USC connect, and since USC does not mail merit scholarship rejections until the first week of February (the case of which would explain why the committe has not acted on my application yet), is it within reasonable limit to henceforth deduce that I have been rejected from scholarship consideration?

That might be jumping the gun a bit. While once again mentioning how very selective the scholarships have become (and so it is unfortunately more likely that any given applicant will NOT be invited…), if the past is our guide the updates to the portals have not occurred all at the same instant and, in fact, we have seen posts from a few who’s portals never changed throughout the entire application season and who were invited to interview. Application status changes have, in my memory, occurred over several days rather than all at once.

Once again, there will be no rejections at this point. If not invited to interview at this point, those who applied by December 1st are still eligible for the many smaller USC scholarships.

Continued wishes for good luck to one and all.

are we assuming that all those with the portal change are being asked to interview?

I’m treating it as a scholarship rejection but you can treat it however you want. Expect the worst, hope for the best.

$3000-quarter tuition is barely a dent out of $250000

Because I am a nut for accuracy and details (apologies  ) I will note that 1/4 tuition at USC is actually approximately $11,900/year for a total of $47,600 over 4 years. Still not a huge dent, but a bit more than $3,000.

Thanks Alamemom. That really helped :)

So, alememom - to be clear…in the past, there have been students in the past whose portal never changed, but they did receive large packets inviting them to interview a few days later, and also a few weeks later?

Keep in mind, if you qualify, it is possible to receive financial aid in addition to one of the smaller scholarships. Have you applied for any local scholarships? There are websites that list corporate, religious, civic, patriotic and other scholarship opportunities.

I thought that any scholarship money from usc or outside just reduces your FA. But even getting small outside scholarships( most are around $1000) do little to reduce a 250000 dollar burden

Hi 2018eastorwest,
Once again bearing in mind that the scholarships are VERY selective and so it is, for ALL applicants, far more likely that they will not be invited to interview, yes, I have seen a very few (maybe 3 or 4 over 5 years of observing) posters say that their status never changed and they were invited to interview.

I tend to be an impossible optimist - so understand that we are talking about a tiny, tiny percentage - but I would not say that at this point all hope is lost :)

And once again, the updates have not all occurred at the same instant in the past - give it a few days at least.

Thanks for the info alamemom :0

In past years the portal change meant nothing, although we never saw one that said the committee had acted and mailed…

The message "…the committee had acted and mailed… " appeared much later (end of March) in years past. So, I think this is a new thing, but I could be wrong.

Would someone whose portal status changed be willing to post or message me a screenshot of where they say the message or just describe where they see the message? I just want to know if I am looking in the right place, lol.

The message is in the application status check pop up, which you can find on the admission page of your usconnect account

Since they do not reject anyone at this stage, I would think that if you have the message “the committee has acted…” that this means you are going to be receiving a big fat packet in the next couple of days!

Is it in the box and under “Current Message”? If it is, mine is still empty. It sounds like that means you are going to receive an acceptance package, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Is it concerning that the status change says: If for some reason you do not receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results of this online through USConnect March 29th at noon Pacific Time. If the person is supposed to get a scholarship interview in February, wouldn’t he/she need to know before march 29th?

My daughter has this message on her Application status:

@CDreams
It’s not in the box. It’s above the box. It replaced the previous message “We have received your Common Application and USC Supplement, and it appears we require no additional information at this time.”

Somebody said from the other threads that in past years, some applicants have this message on their portal yet they were not invited for an interview for Presidential scholarship but they recieved the smaller ones. We’ll see.

Can any1 post a link to previous threads that discuss what this “status change” meant?
