The Commuter Student Thread/Poll (Commuter means that you live at home with parents.)

I was a commuter, but at least I had a car. I knew kids whose moms drove them to and from school everyday just like little kids. Talk about a high-school mentality …

Welp, at least I think I will find employment after I graduate(Full time) and living at home helped me deal with a rather serious health issue.

I want to go to graduate school but I hate the system. I hate how the general process is that you go to school, get good grades and/or do research, then go to more school, and then make money so that you can feed yourself and buy a house.

It doesn’t satisfy me nor my brain. The other students in school are about as interesting to me as potatoes. I think that I need to change something.

The marketing departments got involved, and their propaganda worked. It worked so well that people will borrow money at usurious rates to partake of a mystical, magical ‘experience’ promised to them by the media, their parents, and their guidance counsellors.

Junior may be $80K in the hole, but he had an experience! An experience, by Jove! That completely justifies every frivolous expenditure since Junior had a bloody experience!

Then again, when has this country been known for doing intelligent things?

look to the left of this post and you will see it was worth it.

i planned my classes to avoid traffic though, the I5 is rough

You know you are right. My brother was manipulated by this magical experience and payed out of state tuition to have it. He now has 6 digits in loans.

He has an Engineering degree so he can pay them back but “this magical experience” is not worth $50,000 to $100,000.

Children should seriously consider this before going to college. You should aim to be under $20,000 in student loans after you graduate with your bachelor’s degree unless your parents are funding everything(totally different scenario).

I have between 40-50k in the hole and I could have prevented this given I was not financially ■■■■■■■■ at the age of 18.

I am just bumping this thread back up for further discussions…

So, how about a change of subjects: If you commute from home, are you involved on campus? Or is the commute so long and hellish that it’s often not worth it to stay on campus into the wee hours of the evening to do stuff for clubs and such?

I am involved in one club. The meeting’s are usually at good hours so I can just stay on campus after classes. I’m also going on this service trip for spring break and we have meetings for that. They’re later but thankfully my dad lets me borrow his car to go to them so it’s much faster than Metro’s evening service.
