The Complaining Thread

If you got a poor grade you didn't deserve, lost an election you felt was in-the-bag, forgot to complete a major assignment, failed in your quest for a 2300+ SAT, or have anything in your life to complain about, then this thread is for you.

Complain away!

I'll start:

At my debate tournament today, my partner and I were 3-0 going into our final debate. Our last opponent completely fabricated parts of their argument with bogus sources and delivered them so confidently that the judge awarded them the win by one point. If we had won, we would have placed in the top three. Instead, we got 7th-8th. What an absolute disappointment.

I wonder, what were you discussing here at the debate?

today we did a practice regatta against all the other boats in my club and because our coach is away for a regatta, our coxswain picked the lineups. Instead of putting us in the best lineups for the team, she put her friends in the good seats so instead of being stroke seat like I am every other day she put me in 4 seat. Then even with a ridiculous head start, the varsity guys beat us because the stern four was giggling the whole time.

@PP: Space exploration: Private vs. public sector.

What were you arguing for your position? :D

I hate people who do lame stuff like debate and crew/rowign/whatever. Well especially the crew stuff. Cuz congrats, you get to race all 25 other schools that do it too.

I could send you my four page pro case, but that would be overdoing it. The point is, their facts were obviously wrong (or severely misconstrued), and it robbed us of the top 3 finish we deserved.

Last year in my honors chem class, we were assigned a lab at the beginning of the year. We were assigned partners and I was with some junior (I was a soph) who I didn’t know. We did the in class work he volunteered to do the write up as homework. I usually do these things by myself but I let him do it anyways. It turns out that this kid was clueless and got us a 10% on the lab. The teacher gave us a 10% out of pure pity, we (he) deserved a 0. A few weeks later the kid dropped out of the class because he couldn’t handle it. I asked my teacher if I could re do the assignment but she wouldn’t let me. I ended the year with an 89.4% and I bet if I got a decent grade on that labe write up I would’ve had an 89.5 and therefore an A-. Stupid teacher was stupid.

^Wow that sucks! I never let others write my work, even in group projects. If they write something that will be graded in my name, I go over and edit it.

^Same here.

Studious, I wouldn’t mind reading your “four page pro case”. LOL

Yea, I certainly learned my lesson. I always do my own work unless I am positive that my partner will do it as well or better than me.

dfree, beware of the partner who is used to doing everything, the way you are. Conflict is created.

My school is too easy as it has grade inflation and is kind of a football school. Needless to say, there are some hard classes due to teachers that don’t teach. They just handout assignments and tests.

My biology teacher is so incompetent! He is an awful teacher!

My Bio teacher is great, but he’s really tough.

When I’m not assigned a partner I usually end up working with my friends who are (and I’m not trying to boast) usually not as smart as I am. I just write up the assignment for both of us. It might seem like I’m being used but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Also, I think there’s significant grade deflation in my school. Last year I got a B- in my honors pre-calc/trig class but a 750 on the math II sat II with not too much studying. Also, my AP calc teacher says the average class grade is a B but 3/4 of his students last year got 5s on the AP test. Same goes for APUSH, the average grade is a B/B+ but 50% of the kids got 5s, 35% got 4s, a few got 3s and there was only one 2. Maybe we’re just good at standardized testing… who knows.

Yeah, grade deflation in my school is “in”. And when I mean “in”, I mean “in”.

Wow, I haven’t posted on CC in a while.

At my school, there’s a lot of grade deflation as well. Especially in math subjects. Last year in AP Calc, 1 kid got an A out of a class of 16, but 11 got a 5 on the AP exam. It’s like that in all of the really hard AP classes, but especially with math.

Though, I don’t have too much to complain about in my school.

I loved how at my old school I was ranked in the top 5, was in NHS, and had a great social life, but I HATE how I was FORCED to move RIGHT BEFORE MY SENIOR YEAR.
I hate how my ranking went down (my old school never weighted, but my current one does :P), how I lost NHS (I was ‘new’ and therefore DISQUALIFIED), and most of all, my complete lack of social life!
